Although some references show Black Maria as being bred by Colonel E. R. Bradley (who imported her dam, *Bird Loose), she is officially listed as being bred by W. R. Coe, who owned her throughout her racing career. The most probable solution to the dilemma is that Colonel Bradley planned the mating, but *Bird Loose was sold to Coe while carrying Black Maria.
Humanely destroyed in 1932 in a paddock accident in which she broke her leg.
