| Owner: Mr. J. S. Rarey Breeder: Lord Dorchester
2nd: Newmarket's Criterion S.
Cruiser was Venison most famous son, but oddly not for his racing ability. Cruiser had a notoriously vicious temper, so vicious that he was confined to a specially made stone stall and was often blinded and muzzled. It is believed that Cruiser bad temperament was caused by harsh training and abusive treatment.
It wasn’t until Mr. John Rarey who had gained notoriety as a “horse whisperer” traveled to England to offer demonstrations to the royal court that Cruiser was freed from his stone prison. Rarey bought Cruiser and the two traveled the world giving exhibitions. They later returned to Mr. Rarey home state of Ohio and became a popular stallion where visitors would shower him with attention that in his young days would have been impossible.
