The yearling is by Marino Marini. I will check with the farm to see whether this is common in his offspring. Like I said, I may be off in my assessment and it might just be that he unbalanced across his topline at this point in his growth. The plan has always been to race him as an 2YO, either in no...

swayback and training

I have a yearling at the farm who is looking more and more swayback. He has always been a big horse, and is definitely "rump high", with his back end much higher than his withers. Not sure if he just in an awkward growth stage, but sure doesn't look as put together as he did before. With all that sa...

Thx,

Mating advice for new mare

I picked up a new mare at the Wygods dispersal at Barretts here in CA. Her name is Fantasy Rocks. She is by Rock Hard Ten out of a Storm Cat mare. She is very young (only 3), unraced, and was actually bred at 2 (something I don't like). She is currently in foal to Bertrando. She is a nice sized mare...

Wygod dispersal at Barretts

Anyone else find it interesting that there are no mares in foal to Benchmark in the sale? All of the other former River Edge stallions are represented. Any general thoughts on the catalog?

turning out yearlings with weanlings

I'm thinking about buying a yearling colt at one of the upcoming sales, and the way my farm is set up right now, I would likely need to put him in with my weanling colt. Is this a good/bad idea? Are there safety issues with this? Anyone have experience doing this before?

Thanks,

"Zo" ran back in another MSW race at GGF over the weekend (second race off the claim), and he won!!! Defintely bittersweet, but the breeders awards and the fact that I own the mare made it very exciting! Looking forward to his upcoming race career and the upcoming foals from my mare.

Looking for broodmare (in KY or CA)

I'm looking for a broodmare (in foal) to purchase privately, as I have been unsuccessful at the public sales this year. Some key criteria: located in KY or CA, young mare (not older than 8-10 years old), preferred winner, some black type in the 1st dam, and covering stallion with some commercial app...

Boarding farms in KY

I am considering sending some mares to KY to breed this season. Does anyone any have any recommendations on boarding farms to use in the Lexington area to board and foal out the mare, and facilitate the breeding process at the bigger stud farms (e.g., checking the mare to see when she's ready to bre...

I am actually of the understanding that it is policy (and "highly recommended"), but not required at the farm I am at. I should doublecheck.

Foaling season - let's re-hash the plasma issue

Now that it's foaling season, I wanted to get peoples' opinions on the administration of plasma to newborn foals to prevent rhodococcus pneumonia. It seems like common practice at CA farms, and I presume elsewhere too. However, I see there different farms have different policies... for example, some...

I was at the sale and actually bid on that mare. I thought she was a steal at $1,600/$1,800 but wanted to wait for some later horses that I didn't end up getting. I thought it was a buyback because of the purchasers name, but Sam Hendricks told me it wasn't. Regarding Barretts, I wasn't very happy w...

Breeding suggestions for Honour and Glory mare

I was all set to send my mare, Gloriousexcitement, to Benchmark this season. I am reconsidering with the new addition of Papa Clem in CA. My mare seems to match well with Benchmark, but not so sure how she matches with Papa Clem. She is a complete outcross with Papa Clem, but Honour and Glory mares ...
