The rider for Questing did just everything he could to win the race: got slow fractions, and then drifted wide on the final turn. Nakatani seemed to know exactly what was happening and got My Miss Aurelia right up against Questing for the stretch run. The weight probably had an affect too.

2 year old filly set track record at Saratoga for 5 furlongs. By Tapit out of a Carson City mare. Speed to burn!

An enjoyable Derby as both a race and a spectacle. Union Rags was my Derby pick though I was concerned with the light racing schedule. Judging by Matz's quotes post race, I would be shocked if a jockey change isn't coming. Why didn't he go back to Casellano when he lost Algorithms? Anyway, I was als...

Pretty good ROI on $1K. He must not have looked great in the sales ring. Bellamy Road by a Posse mare is worth more than that.

I am staying with Union Rags. Really like Creative Cause as well, but I think Union Rags might have more left in the tank. Got just enough out of his Florida Derby.

Looks competitive. Think I like Golden Ticket, seems to be getting better. Summer Front has been training well by the looks of it and will be fresh.

Jerome Handicap

who do folks like in this one? Doesn't look like any world-beaters are entered. Sort of like The Lumber Guy because he has showed speed over the track.

Is Zito still training for Lapenta? I see Stirred Up is trained by Baffert. Maybe because he started on the west coast.

Was more impressed with Hansen, who did all the hard work, and set fractions that were faster than the Arkansas Derby. Dullahan's 2 lifetime wins are at Keeneland, will that translate to Churchill?

This flatters Creative Cause even more, having repelled Bodemesiter in the San Felipe. Of course Bodemeister could be improving by huge leaps, being a less experienced horse.

There's enough pace in this race to think it will set up for someone coming off of it. Especially on artificial with no dirt flying up. Unless Hansen just runs off with it, I like Prospective to wear down the leaders in the final half furlong.

Florida Derby always seems to be an interesting race. Union Rags is on the same schedule as Barbaro. As a fan of the horse, I wish he had one more race leading into this one, from a fitness and race experience perspective.

I give Pletcher a break on this because I think he is on the trainer short-list of anyone spending tons of money on a yearling. If he was the house trainer for Phipps/Janney, he wouldn't have as many high priced duds on his resume.

He was all over the place in the stretch and still got there. He seems to have a big stride that covers ground.

And Curlin was bought for $57K as a yearling by McPeek, beating the bushes as was mentioned earlier in the thread.
