Re: Highland Reel
I expect to see Highland Reel standing to National Hunt mares within the next few years. Seems the way majority of the Coolmore stallions who liked a distance of ground go...

You could almost see it coming. Both won the Derby and the Preakness. Both based in California. SS died recently. The Japanese were looking to replace him. There's I'll Have Another standing there with a big "For Sale" sign on his left butt cheek. They fell all over themselves lining up trying to b...

FANTASTIC pedigree and NOT one I'd have expected to see a dominant white from, but I'm pretty darned sure that's a DW. http://www.pedigreequery.com/moonlark Why not? There's a forum member on HGS whose got a similarly marked Gone West and remember that Johar yearling with the blue eyes you posted b...

Wouldn't matter if it was spread out over 10 feedings, 18 lbs of grain is just unhealthy. It's beyond even the recommended feeding levels for that feed, which is full of corn as the 2nd and 12th ingredient. It's 38%+ simple sugars by weight. If you need to feed 18 lbs of a feed and go beyone the rec...

We have one thoroughbred that would look like hell when she had a colt on her. To keep her in decent flesh and the neighbor's from calling Animal Control on us, we fed her 4 times a day. Total of 18 lbs. She never left a bit. She only shared with her baby three time's a day. The noon feedin...

As old as he is and how often used he was, it should have been more than just a rumor he could have been going stale. I would have atleast tried once, and my god if that old man could have gotten atleast one in foal for the season and it was Zenyatta- he would have gone out a happy man (in his owne...

LKR, How much 'grain' is this horse getting? Type and weight? Heavy grain rations can sometimes be a cause of weight loss and digestive upset for horses. Has he been checked for ulcers? Depending on what and how much 'grain' he's on, I'd reduce some of it and add in soaked beat pulp and some rice br...

Bernardini had 64 Grade 1 winners/producers in his first book of mares. If I were Darley I'd be breathing a sigh of relief that he produced something in his 1st crop from those mares! Had I mare that matched well with him, I'd certainly be giving Congrats a try. I don't think anyone who bred to Ber...
