We had a qtr horse filly many years ago that had bumped her knee. It had a small amount offluid on it for the rest of her life. She was x-rayed dozens of time by our vet. Never showed anything. She never took a lame step. Set a track record while racing. Retired with the fluid still on her knee. Wou...

The risk of cyanide poisoning is only during the growing period. This has been harvested and set for a couple of months in big bales. It was allowed to dry the seed heads before it was harvested for seed, then the windrows were baled. Basically, other than harvesting the seed, it was put up like alf...

Sudan Grass Straw For Feed
There is some Sudan Grass that was baled after they harvested the seed. It would be like wheat straw is after they harvested the wheat seed. Is there any value left in the sudan grass when it is put up this way? We would get it mainly as a filler, supplement the horses with protein tubs and vitamins...

I doubt she is carrying twins. We had 3 or 4 mares that were extremely large with babies this year. One did slip twins last fall, but that was at about 5 months. Nature usually takes care of the twin problem. However, a friend had two live sets born and they both lived. This was years ago, paint mar...

Dorsal Displacement Of The Soft Palate In 55 Day Old Colt
I can't remember if anyone here has had this problem or not. A friend has the above colt. He makes noise when he breathes and has been on antibiotics since he was born. Vets at Pilchuk recommended she put him down. Has anyone dealt with this in one so young?? Different if they are grown, I would sup...

The horse I posted about just won two rounds last weekend, running the fastest times of the weekend, there were 80 horses competing. He is bouncing all over the place. Puts a new light on the "kill 'em or cure 'em" philosophy. Whatever he "passed" must have been a doozy. She certainly didn't intend ...

Capillary Health
Is there anything in particular that can help with the capillary system on a horse to aid in preventing bleeding when racing or working hard?

When we were talking yesterday, she wondered if it might have been due to a die off of worms. He is wormed regularly but she gives the z-gold in the spring. I know that the quest wormer was causing liver problems in some horses years ago and it was cautioned not to give it to thin horses or somethin...

Zimectrin Gold Causing Reactions
A friend just stopped by who has had an older horse have a bout with something about a month ago. He dropped weight, looked like he was going to die on her. She has been barrel racing him and he had a colicky episode at one of them. Vet treated for colic, but he took two weeks to come out of the who...
