Madelyn, That was good information. But as I read the Stud fee example I focus on the words "mare in this state". Can that be interpreted in different ways? A mare kept in KY vs a mare shipped in? Or am I just over reading it? Stud Fees Generally subject? Sales taxes apply to “fees paid for breeding...

LB,

If what you said is accurate and I am sure it is, then why would a stud fee whose purpose is for breeding still be taxed?

Ok here is another question, why do I not have to pay sales tax on a mare I bought in a KY sale? Would that not be the same or does it have to do with purchasing a service rather than a product?

As a breeding farm in PA, we do not have to pay sales tax (exempt). I thought maybe it was the same in KY.

thanks LB,

That makes sense, however I have bought a ring in NY and they mailed it to me and I did not have to pay the taxes.

Do out of state breeders pay sales tax on stud fees in KY?

Anyone know the correct answer to this? Do I have to pay tax on the stud fee for a KY sire if I am boarding and foaling in PA.
The farm last year did not charge me but the farm this year says that I have to pay it. I did not think I did.

stlouiskid,

The goal is to produce something within my budget that has commercial appeal for the MD FT yearling sale. If I have to race then I would but ultimate goal is to sell.

Barcaldine, Thanks for words of caution, I have read enough of the posts on this board to get a sense of whose opinions I put more stock in. Although I appreciate all the responses as it can sometime foster good discussions. As for all the gimmicks, I would never base any opinion solely on them but ...

Jeff, Thoughts on Outflanker, I know the commercial appeal isn't there but it gives me the RF factor, Buckpasser, ND If I could afford Not for Love would he be on the short list? Eddington creates a very interesting DP profile with her. 7-14-7-2-2 (32) I am not sure if anyone else looks at this but ...

Madelyn, Thanks for the explanation very helpful. I just happened to be on "The American Thoroughbred Review" website and they list Eddington as a worst buy. Not that I put too much stock into any one source but what are your thoughts about this website. For what it's worth they also named Artie Sch...

Jeff did you have someone in mind in MidAtlantic region? Would consider KY if I have to but have to be under 10k.

Madelyn very interesting hypo mating on Eddington 6-12-8-2-2 (30) DI = 2.75 CD = 0.60. How did you come up with him.

Looking for mating advice for this mare

Would love to get some thoughts on who to breed her to. Her name is Hen Reception Probably going to stay in the MidAtlantic region (PA, MD, NY) Stud fee range 10K or less She is a big correct mare I would consider a higher stud fee and KY if it reasoning was overwhelming. If you do respond please sh...

I think the economy has a lot to do with it the smaller crops. A lot of the smaller breeders have been struggling financially over the last few years and made the decision to cut back and breed less or get out altogether. I do think though that it is the small breeder that make racing what it is. It...
