Re: Unbridled's Song sons at stud
I have a particular interest in this thread as I own two, young allowance winning Dehere mares (one ran third this month in a second level allowance off her winter break). They are both out of an old foundation mare of mine by I'ma Hellraiser (see Cross Traffic). Remarkably close up in this mare's d...

Re: Napravnik Injured;Socialbug not so fortunate
Glad Rosie will be OK. She happens to be a childhood friend of my exercise rider. As I'm hear it, they used to beat each other in pony races before they were old enough to go to school. Sad outcome for Socialbug. Lovely looking filly and, of course, a half sister to Midnight Lute. I haven't won any ...

Re: Stability Finally
Happy to report that my mare is well on her way to recovery now. Over the last ten days she was turning in low grade temps in the 102 range. If I didn't mention it earlier, surgeons generally discourage the use of any antibiotics with colic surgery because of their tendency to reduce colin motility....

Re: Some advice
I have a foal on a nurse mare since 5/19. My mare flash coliced six hours after she foaled. E-surgery and now she's stable and recovering. Foal was remarkably adaptable. Put him on milk replacer with a bottle until the mare came home from the clinic but she rejected him and I found a nurse mare thro...

Re: A Foaling Mare-Emergency Colic Surgery
For those who have an interest, please see my post under Foal Watch regarding a similar colic that occurred on the same day to my foaling mare.

Re: A further thought
I have found TrueNicks to be misleading and oversimplified because of the sole focus on the Sire to Broodmare Sire relationship. I strongly encourage you to run a Key Ancestor report on this mare in order to get the complete picture.

Re: Dehere gone but not forgotten
Without being too cynical, it seems that Coolmore has finally succeeded in bringing about his demise in some far away place. I personally loved the horse not only for his pedigree but for his stunning rallies in races in which he appeared to be hopelessly beaten. He possessed a turn of foot rarely s...

Re: An update on two foals and a near catastrophe
The SGE colt continues to thrive at 10 weeks. The kid, nicknamed Tommy as shorthand for his intended name, is a whopper already, likely to be as big as his mother at 17 hands. Correct, balanced, and athletic. I have two terrific pictures of the kid taken by my friend the photographer. Haven't been a...

Re: Pentosan
Pentosan has been used for over 30 years in Australia and Europe, therefore it is now a generic drug. Actually, it is approved by the FDA for human use to treat a bladder ailment, but is not approved by the FDA for equine use in this country because, as a generic, there is not sufficient financial i...

Re: Mare Care In Lexington
For repro work, I prefer Rood and Riddle and have had experience with both the out-patient and the clinic. Hagyard has also provided good professional service as well.

Stephen Got Even colt at 14 days
The kid now engages his mother in hand to hand combat at the feed tub and is also eating some hay. I know that some experts discourage this but my experience has been that my best and strongest have been early to the tub . I have some great shots of him foot-racing his mother around the paddock, pro...

A further note
The Pine Bluff mare has her first born filly in training now bred on the dynamic Indian Charlie/Pine Bluff cross like Uncle Sigh. From six fillies produced from this cross, five were winners and three were stakes winners, all in SoCal. Rating according to True Nicks is AA+, 20 something variant. I f...

One more to go
Forgot to mention I have one more to foal in April.
A colt, I think, by Jump Start out of my runner-up in the Frizette Stakes. A solid mating, I hope, as she is a Deputy Minister line mare out of a Rubiano/Star de Naskra dam that produced all maiden special winners, at a minimum.

It's a boy!
Born 1 AM Monday. All ten fingers and ten toes. Hungry and people friendly. With a Daddy of about 16.2 and a Mother about 17.0 he promises to be a big boy and he's plenty leggy. Dark brown now but with gray hairs, so he will be gray like his Mom. Back training again but I will find time to post some...

A minor misjudgement: C'maw Charlie
I'm sure that this would be an interesting story to learn more about. It seems that the 3yo colt named C'maw Charlie (By My Pal Charlie out of a multiple graded stakes placed mare by Lord of War), destroyed a field by 29 3/4 lengths in a Mdn $10,000 at Delta Downs in his first start on March 5th. No...
