Injectible products for joints- pregnant mare
Hi, Wondering if anyone has experience using any of the injectible products in broodmares? My vet has not used Pentosan in any pregnant mares and we have not found much information on it or Adequan, Ichon, Legend or NexHA etc. Any info on successful use in pregnancy or unsuccessful use would be appr...

Re: Keeping weight on
Feeding fat (like the weight builder you mentioned) should help. I like Purina's Amplify nuggets for my hard keeping ones- typically see good results within a few weeks. Also smart to look into the gastric ulcers or a trial of Ulcergard or Gastrogard- treat at the higher dose to start, then taper do...

Hip locked
Hi, Very sorry to hear about your loss. I had a similar situation, but both came through OK. However, the mare did not get back in foal that year, and that is the only time she has been bred she did not take. We had no trouble with the front end, but it took me and my husband both on this one. I usu...

NOT displaced sesamoid!
Well, although I have not talked to the vet yet, I did get written info finally. No wonder I have never heard of a displaced sesamoid, it is indeed a NON DISPLACED SESAMOID FRATCURE. Wow, what poor communication there can be. Not sure where the information changed along the grapevine, but it sure di...

I have not gotten the vet to call me yet to discuss the issue. I was told that there is no fracture (which is what I think of with a displacement of a bone fracture). I do understand the anatomy very well. From what I understand it is not a dislocation or something that is involving structures highe...

Displaced sesamoid
Hi, I was told my 3 yr old filly has a displaced sesamoid and will need time off. This is not an injury with which I am familiar. Can anyone help me understand it better, or let me know if you have had experience with a horse with a similar injury. I have not yet spoken personally to the vet, but wa...

Recomendations for mare?
Looking for advice on stallion selection. Mare is Ohio Star by Pioneering, 2007. She is 16.2 1/2 hh, medium to a bit fine in frame and average muscling. Slightly toes in-- slightly short, upright in pasterns. No runners yet- just had her first foal, by Langfuhr. I cannot find fault with the foal's c...

New for 2013
I was wondering if anyone has seen any of the new stallions based in KY, and what impressions of their conformation may have been. Several have what I will call "short" racing careers for one reason or another- any concerns about anyone in particular?
