I think Verrazano is a good horse, but his heart is normal sized, so I don't think he'll make the Derby distance. See the report linked in this article:

There was a picture in the Thoroughbred Daily News of March 12, 2012, at the bottom of page 13 - http://www.thoroughbreddailynews.com/restricted/pdf/tdn/tdn120312_1.pdf I think you have to be a subscriber to access the PDF, so I grabbed the image: http://i1018.photobucket.com/albums/af310/aethervox/...

Verrazano was very impressive last out (my 32 -1 shot didn’t embarrass himself as clearly the 2nd best). The winner was on cruise control the whole way, and was in no danger at any time. He has a wonderfully smooth running style and is deserving of favoritism at this point. However, I think a mile ...

I would like to point out one unique characteristic of the equine Y chromosome. There's a repeated sequence in the DNA; one occurs in the Pseudoautosomal Region - PAR - (the region that does recombine with the X gene) and the other occurs in the male specific region - MSY. - see the paper at http://...

I'm with you PZ; I'd leave the horse's name as Bend Or, because that's the name he actually raced under, and change his dam to reflect the mtDNA evidence, with a big note stating why the change is being made. That way the race records, etc. will be accurate.

Just my opinion, of course.

I have a friend who lives in Switzerland and have asked her to see what she can find. I'll let you know if she comes up with anything, but it may take a while as she's just started college.

I just don't personally know of any other than the Baroque type. There are some rather interesting scientific papers on muscle fiber types i...
