Racing Statistics and fate of 45 racehorses born in 2007

Postby Toccet02 » Mon Sep 25, 2017 12:22 pm

I closed out another "class" of 10 year olds . . . and again, here are the results. Most came from Keeneland September, the others winter/spring 2YO in training sales.
Where they ended up:

adopted 6.60%
broodmare 22.20%
died 8.80%
second career 11.11%
exported 4.40%
stallion 2.20%
Unknown 44.44%

closed September 22, 2017
Horse number 45
avg price $90,767
avg. work debut 8/13/2009
avg. race debut 12/6/2009
avg. starts 19.73
avg. earnings per horse $70,900.00
avg. earnings per start $3,593.19
avg. return on price 237.55%
quality Index 3.13 (average was a maiden winner)
ITM% 44.50%
WIN% 16.56%
Total return on purchase price 71.17%
Graded stakes winners or placed (1) Tiny Woods
5 known injuries out of 45 11.11%
never worked 3
never raced 4 (total 4)
To the races 91.11%

Again, unsettling how many can't be tracked down.

I'm curious as to what your criteria were for choosing them in the beginning of your study.

in order of importance

immediate pedigree
appearance (if I could see sale or breeze video)
then I checked against two of my lists that I've casually kept over the years of my own research--
one of soundness problems, noting suspect parentage or combinations,
the other of inbreeding patterns of winners. Particularly interested in how many starts they had.

It's kind of a relaxing game/hobby that I chip away at when I have time--and of course I've had less and less time.

Interesting, this is just a great example of how random (and maybe a little sad) the sport is.

There's a colt I saw a picture of on Country Life's website in 2014. I tried to "follow" him, and had no workouts, looked him up on Jockey Club's website and saw he'd been exported. Googled his name, turns out he's a pretty good little racehorse in Sweden !
