I read the story about Jack van Berg. The name is Dutch, so his ancestors must have come from Holland of maybe Belgium, just curious. Doe anyone know?

Hi Erin,
Don't know for sure, but Jacks father Marion (born 1896)....who also was a hall of fame trainer and both were born in Nebraska. Many immigrants migrated from Holland and Netherlands in the late 1800's to Nebraska. So you may very well be correct with your assumption they were Dutch. TJ

I met Jack Van Berg last spring in the Racing office at Churchill Downs; I was there with an owner trying to claim something. Anyhow Jack was in his wheelchair holding court. He was a very interesting old fella.
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....
