Wordplay may be racing this weekend

Postby henthorn » Tue May 29, 2007 7:37 am

I may be away from a computer to let you know, but we are hoping to enter Wordplay at Prairie Meadows on June 2nd in an Iowa-bred maiden special. If you're interested, you might put her in your watch list for a news update of entry and result.

Update: she is entered at 9:50 pm CDT June 2nd, race 9, Prairie Meadows, 6 furlong, MSW, purse of $30K+. PP5 of 7, Alex Birzer aboard. I should be back from Kentucky by then to watch the simulcast.

What a disappointment! She threw another klinker, showed no interest. It's not the company she's against, because she trains much better in the mornings. We just need to unlock her desire to compete somehow. We'll keep trying to find the answers; wish us luck.

Just stopping with serious training, get her mind fixed to something else.

Thanks, Ben. Maybe we'll try that.

What we try with a horse that doesn't show on race day is the following.

If possible have her hacked out in the afternoons for something different or try swimming her in the afternoons.

A great thing for getting their attention is jumping them. Doesn't have to be big or anything just gives them something different to do and think about. Brightens them up no end.

Is there a beach any where near you?

Emmad, we have to think for something else than the beech for Mellanie
she is just bored from it.
There are so many much more horses just getting bored from training and anything else.
Btw Mellanie is out all night in a very big paddock with lots of grass and company.
This morning took an hour to get 2 miles on the beech coming home within just 3 minutes. No way of stopping her gooiing back to the van and to the stables at the end

If she's used to the beach try the jumping. It's just something different to focus on. Also afternoon hacks just going anywhere you feel like. Don't suppose she's stabled at a farm is she?

No she is stabled some ten minutus by the van from the beech to the stables.
She knows damm well that the Van brings her home.
At the trainingsyard there is also some 60 acres of pasture which is split up into some 6 paddocks.
We will find something new for her, to focus.
