My horse won yesterday as a 93-1 long shot

Postby tmqh » Sun Jan 25, 2009 12:21 pm

I am excited and very humble, so it's hard for me to even type this, but a horse that I acquired about 2 months ago won at Turfway Park yesterday as a 93-1 long shot. I am a show horse trainer and I've done all the work on this horse myself, so it's extremely gratifying for me to accomplish this. To me, a good horse is a good horse and the basics are all the same, but I am fairly new to racing and this has definately lit a new fire under me. To make it even more special was the fact that it was my mom's birthday and my entire family was there to support me. My daughter is in love with this horse and she was in the winners circle right beside him. He is an Indiana bred so I am excited about the upcoming race season in our state.

Sorry to brag so much, but I am still on cloud 9. He was the talk of Turfway yesterday paying $187 to win.

When you bring in a 92-1 shot you are allowed to brag all you want.

Congrats. I hope you had a few bucks the your horse.

Wow, I'm very happy for you! I would be astronomically happier if you had mentioned this opportunity before the race and I could have had a couple of bucks on him!!!

It's not bragging--this forum is here to share the victories! Congratulations!

Congratulations. Some of our best trainers have come out of the showing world. The best part of your post for me was that your daughter was there to enjoy the moment. Here's hoping that she will become part of a younger generation of racing fans. Our sport needs that.

Thanks so much. It was so exciting. My daughter(who is 10 yrs old) has always had a love for horses like me and she really attached herself to this one. She studies the bloodhorse stallion register and knows the bloodlines just about as good as I do. My biggest problem now is trying to explain the claiming situation with her, although I really don't think anyone would take him.
It was just a really neat day.

Congrats on a great race tonight, he did all the dirty work and was still there at the end and was well clear of 3rd. You have really found out how to keep him happy and hopefully he continues to do the same to you and your family. And $20.00 to place hope you guys had a little on him.

Thanks Ascot. He made me so proud. I was a little concerned losing his conditions the last time out. Open company was a little tougher, but he sure held his own and proved what he can do.
My other horse also ran 2nd this past Saturday. He was the long shot of that race also and came in a very strong 2nd. I've been training show horses my entire life, but racing is somewhat new to me. I just want them happy and sound. We all gave him a huge hug when he got home tonight.

Thanks again!

Congrats! How fun for you and your family. I knew a chap who was new to racing and moved up every older mare he claimed and made happy. Showing horses gives you good practice keeping horses from getting sour. :)
