A Bit Special -- Maybe You've Heard of This One :)

Postby ZiaLand » Sun Feb 03, 2019 4:02 pm

Although we're not technically connected to this filly, we have a solid emotional stake in her.

Our wonderful broodmare, Blazing Bartok, succumbed to cancer in August 2018. Thirteen days after she passed, this 2YO daughter of her full sister, Euro Empire, won her first race. And continued winning races, including several stakes with her sole loss to date being a 2nd by a neck in a stakes.

A Bit Special just won the Grade 3 $100K Sweetest Chant Stakes at Gulfstream Park today, and we agree with the announcer that she looks to be "the real deal."

We'll continue to follow her career--as cheerleaders.

Edited to ad: Nice article on her. https://www.paulickreport.com/news/thoroughbred-racing/a-bit-special-proves-very-special-in-sweetest-chant-stakes/

What a sweet connection to your mare, and so aptly named. I'm sorry for the loss of your mare, I lost Fenix's dam recently due to foaling complications. It's a punch in the gut no matter what the circumstances.

Thanks, all. Blaze was a phenomenal mare (dual stakes placed, and she had also been inspected and accepted into the Oldenburg registry), but unfortunately she was very hard to get in foal. She only had one baby for us, but he turned out to be a pretty nice state-bred allowance horse in his 3YO and early 4YO career. She was last bred to Marking (Bernardini x Seventh Street) and we were really hoping she'd take, but looking back we think she'd already begun her downhill slide due to the cancer and didn't conceive. Her death was heartbreaking for us, but maybe it was a blessing in disguise that we didn't lose a foal with her.
