Black Filly! 01/10/15

Postby ZiaLand » Sat Jan 10, 2015 8:31 am

We got some fabulous news this morning. Our Lion Heart mare, Soulful, foaled a black filly at 12:30 AM this morning. The sire is Stellar Rain, who is an unraced son of Storm Cat out of millionaire Stellar Jayne. I think this one's going to be a keeper.

We hope to have photos soon.

We finally got our filly home and we're delighted with her. She's very athletic, well balanced, nicely put together and she has a wonderful temperament. She's also pretty fair size for a 5 month old.

Sorry I don't have any photos that are worth posting (not much of a photographer here), but those of you who know me on FB can see a video of her enjoying her new paddock that was posted yesterday on my timeline.

After seeing her again, now we're convinced. She's a keeper. We haven't been directly involved in the racing side of the business for a couple of decades, so we've got quite a learning curve coming.

This filly turned out to be dark bay/brown and going grey (not true black), and I just realized I never posted the promised pictures.

Here she is in July. We did decide to keep her. If we do run her, she'll be the first homebred we've bred, raised and raced, but we're going to go slow and steady with her so if she doesn't show potential she won't go to the track. The pedigree on this filly is not something we would have done intentionally but there was a ton of serendipity involved. :)

Thanks, Madelyn. In this business, we need all we can get!

(P.S. That aging Irish Sport Horse behind her is Velvet. Remember her brief visit to your place while in transit many moons ago?)
