Milk Production

Postby TBG » Wed Mar 15, 2006 5:14 am

My mare has colostrum but no milk. The vet was out yesterday and started her on domperidone to help the milk come in. It looked like she was developing a small bag. This morning there is no sign of a bag, but she is still producing a clear sticky substance (I believe colostrum). I haven't talked to the vet yet this morning. I was wondering if anyone had some advice.

You could try adding coco powder to her feed, 2 tablespoons per day.

I have had mares here in the past with little or no milk, tryed this and it has worked.
Quality is not expensive.....It's priceless

If you have any access to a veterinarian who does accupuncture, I *highly* recommend it for increasing milk production.

One of our mares regularly foals with little or no bag, and accupuncture has always been successful with her (unfortunately it can't be done prior to foaling, as it can trigger contractions before the foal is properly positioned)
