Just noticed Thunder Snow's dam was sold oversea's by the Happy Hill/Harbor View folks. Fifth dam produced It's In The Air and she was by Francis S, one of the strongest mud influences ever. Add to that the RF to Mumtaz Begum another mud influence...so I'm gonna throw my money away in that direction now:>)...but will use Always Dreaming as well. TJ

Well, I goose-egged, lol... I hope you all did better than I! Seems like Always Dreaming was the real deal today!

I wonder what happened with Thunder Snow?

Here's the finish:
Always Dreaming...ran away and hid from these today.
Lookin At Lee...a decent 2nd.
Battle of Midway...hung tough for 3rd.
Classic Empire...destroyed coming out of the gate, maybe next time?

Hi Skeenan,
It was like his very knowledgeable rider said before they shipped him here...he is a turf horse. TJ

Good call on Always Dreaming TJ!
I kept thinking to myself Lookin at Lee will probably run in the superfecta but talked myself out of him.

Hi Cree,
I ended up with the exacta by using AD with a bunch of horses 2nd....Lookin At Lee finally got some running room:>) But I was very happy for Pletcher...I knew he changed up his training this year with his 3YO's....but it was touch and go for a while as AD almost went over the top. But the draw reigns kept him under control. So when he got on the track and was calm and cool I went for him and spread out:>) TJ

One of these days I will hit a pick 4 in the Derby, but I made money with the Dreamer and I do not want to put the hex on him but if he has no mishap along the way he will be heading to Belmont in the position of going for the Triple Crown. This horse has the attitude and connections to go all the way and yesterday will be the last time he goes off at 9/2 in quite a while. Nice exacta TJ, I know you laughed all the way to the bank

I came up with these fractions for the race (I may be wrong): First 1/4 22.70, 2nd 1/4 23.43, 3rd 1/4 24.19, 4th 1/4 26.15 and 5th 1/4 26.32. It looks to me that all the horses staggered to the finish line, and one had to be first. Just my opinion that these are not real classic horses. They are not bred to run classic distances with enough speed at the end of the race.

Well... he did walk all the way to the gate, on the same muddy track... :P
I saw a good slo-mo video of his bucking fit, kudos to the jockey for hanging on!

And congrats with your exacta! :D

Hi Skee,
Honestly, I would like to know what his connections surmised about the why he buck jumped out of the gate? I know he was deemed sound, so that's a good thing, but I've never seen a horse react like that before? Maybe it was the first time he heard so many feet rattling and splashing around in the slop at one time coming out of the gate and he freaked? TJ

Punched a hole in the theory I learned, the "keep their feet moving if they start to buck" principal... he was doing both! :o

Seems his connections are just as baffled as the rest of us!

Apparently, his sire, Helmet, can be just as wonky on the track, too. Hopefully you can watch this short video:

What a great picture of Always Dreaming at the wire...in full flight as all hooves are suspended in air over the track surface. TJ

I had a Blood Horse subscription when Above Perfection was racing, and I could swear to you that he looks like his mother. I'd have to go back and see if I still have the magazines.

Hi Cree,
There are very few photos of her out there when she was racing, if any? But I did find a picture of her from her last sale, the Fasig Tipton fall mixed sale, November 2009, where she was an RNA at $1,150,000. She was hip number 41 and in foal to Hard Spun at the time.
She did pass on her darker color and that star on her sons head. From what I see you are right...looks more like her mom. Bodie has more white markings head and legs
That's two recent Kentucky Derby winners dam's, who were sprinters, that produced distance progeny through sons of Empire Maker (American Pharoah (Pioneerof the Nile) and Always Dreaming (Bodemeister). TJ

I'll have to go through my storage, but I remember seeing a photo of her racing, and it would have been a Blood Horse photo. Perhaps when she won the Las Flores (G3), or ran 2nd to Xtra Heat in the Prioress (G1)?

I also have a photo (somewhere, storage....) of Langara Lass (dam of Lookin at Lee) when she raced at Hastings Park. Would have to dig that up too.
