The GR II Blue Grass Stakes

Postby TJ » Tue Apr 03, 2018 2:31 pm

Another solid 3YO Derby prep worth 100-40-20-10 across the board. Should be interesting to see if Good Magic can return to form...Chad Brown seems to think he will?? Kanthaka, California Night and Marconi may be cross entered in the Wood Memorial...so watch for scratches? Also on tap this Saturday is the Wood (Enticed) and the SA Derby featuring Justify's first Stakes try vs top California 3YO Bolt d'Oro...entries and pp's will be posted in separate threads tomorrow. Hi George,
Yes Casse said he will run...and with the threat of snow and a possible frozen track, Machismo may also scratch and run in the Arkansas Derby next week. TJ

That was something else although I wished Marconi had done better.
That bolt made me gasp and startled my family. Scary!
All shouting does is make you lose your voice.

D Wayne Lukas sure has some naughty colts!

Flameaway is a tough son of a gun, he has zero quit.

Nice to see Good Magic win this and show the Juvenile wasn't a fluke. He's very powerful and professional. Maybe he just needed his last?

Hi Cree,
Yes, D. Wayne and all his horses are naughty:>) At first I thought Flameaway was a turf horse....but Casse is adept at getting his horses to run over any surface. He continues to prove he deserves his shot in the Derby and it bodes well for Quip who held gamely against him in the Tampa Bay Derby. Flameaway's placing also moved Quip up while hanging in his stall.
Good Magic is one of those horses who needs racing to truly get fit enough for GR I competition and I'm guessing Chad Brown timed it so he will be able to be get through the Derby and the quick turnaround into the Preakness, while reaching peak fitness for the Belmont Stakes and a shot at the TC. Starting to think he is the real deal once again. It seems Chad planned and knew this all along as he was very confident going into the Blue Grass. TJ
