A CURIOUS GRAY FACT:
In 2001 the unexpected winner was the gray MONARCHOS, who was sired by a gray sire. The horse who was supposed to win was POINT GIVEN, who carried a solitary gray ancestor in his third removed. The horse who clicked the suicidal fractionals that paved the way for MONARCHOS late rush was SONGANDAPRAYER, who also carried a solitary gray ancestor in his third removed.
Something identical occurred in 2005. That year the unexpected winner was another gray, GIACOMO, who was also sired by a gray sire.
The horse who was supposed to win was BELLAMY ROAD, who also carried a solitary gray ancestor in his third removed. The horse who clicked the suicidal fractionals that paved the way for GIACOMO's late rush was SPANISH CHESTNUT, who also carried a solitary gray ancestor in his third removed.
