Good to see a Kentucky Derby aspirant who owes his gray color to a sort of zig-zag gray strain coming from Native Dancer. These days you rarely see a talented Triple Crown hopeful coming from him. From time to time one comes across these rare cases. Another one who didn't make it last year was The Factor.

Hansen came in second today in the Bluegrass Stakes, but I like the way he raced today, he held to the end, without emptying the tank completely.

Grey horses

Postby Bettina » Sun Apr 22, 2012 2:35 am

Hello, Jorge,
here in Germany, a 3 year old "grey filly" just broke her maiden.
Her name is Wilddrossel (Dalakhani - Wild Side by Sternkönig).

regards , Bettina

Looks like she may well be a future homozygous gray producer.

A CURIOUS GRAY FACT:

In 2001 the unexpected winner was the gray MONARCHOS, who was sired by a gray sire. The horse who was supposed to win was POINT GIVEN, who carried a solitary gray ancestor in his third removed. The horse who clicked the suicidal fractionals that paved the way for MONARCHOS late rush was SONGANDAPRAYER, who also carried a solitary gray ancestor in his third removed.

Something identical occurred in 2005. That year the unexpected winner was another gray, GIACOMO, who was also sired by a gray sire.
The horse who was supposed to win was BELLAMY ROAD, who also carried a solitary gray ancestor in his third removed. The horse who clicked the suicidal fractionals that paved the way for GIACOMO's late rush was SPANISH CHESTNUT, who also carried a solitary gray ancestor in his third removed.

Lightly raced stakes placed gray horse with a quite interesting pedigree and good breeding potential.
