Just discovered an extremely rare gray strain coming from a South African
gray mare. Take a look at the color of KHEMOSABI’s (2005) dam (GEORDOBA, 1994) and unfold he gray lineage back to her farthest reknown gray ancestor.
There you will find a sire named ISARD (gray H 1910) who was a son of LE SAMARITAIN (1895), son of LE SANCY (1884)

Writer and collaborator Rosana Rivera just came across the pedigree of this yesteryear’s stakes winning Argentinian gray sire who was exported to the US back during the 1960s.

TUDOR WAY (Gray H 1956) http://www.pedigreequery.com/tudor+way

Just by curiosity I decided to follow up his gray lineage to see where it ended. What a pleasant surprise! His gray lineage is still alive and kicking even better than I have imagined.

See his 21st century representative, a colt named SPECIAL ACTION.

SPECIAL ACTION (gr/r colt 2008) by BANDINI out of SILVERLADO by SAINT BALLADO http://www.pedigreequery.com/special+action3

There is another interesting angle on this gray lineage, namely, the cross with another even rarer gray branch coming through the mare named LA GRIS. Take a look:

by TUDOR WAY (Arg) (gray H 1956)
from MARAVILLAS (Arg) (gray M 1950)
from LEGION (Uru) (gray M 1940)
by STAYER (Uru) (gray h 1919) --(out of the gray mare LA GRIS [1926] see below)***
from SEVILLANA (Arg) (gray M 1913)
by LE SAMARITAIN (FR) (gray H 1895)

***
from LA GRIS (Uru) (gray M 1926)
from BIJOU DOR (Uru) (gray M 1913)
from ESPIGA DE ORO (Uru) (gray M 1901)
by FULMINANTE (GB) (gray H 1885)
from LIZZIE GREYSTOCK (GB) (gray M 1868)
by MASTER BAGOT (Ire) (gray H 1854)
from VICTORINE (Ire) (gray M 1832)
from HOLLYHOCK MARE (gray M 1820 circa)
from SPINSTER (GB) (gray M 1805)
from SIR PETER MARE (GB)(gray M 1797)
from BAB (GB)(gray M 1787)

Enjoy this interesting 21st century gray lineage.

The following two entire gray horses:

FULL MARKS (gray/ro H 2004) http://www.pedigreequery.com/full+marks3
STEEL DRUMS (gray/ro H 2006) http://www.pedigreequery.com/steel+drums
possess a very rare circumstance.

Note that both owe their gray coat color to LA CHICA (gray M 1930) and GRISETTE (gray M 1915),
the very same gray ancestors responsible for Native Dancer’s gray color. That is not the rare fact here.

The real curiosity here is that both half-brothers owe their gray color to a very rare, almost unheard strain
from LA CHICA and LA GRISETTE. I am referring to the rare CHELITA strain. Just take a look:

01. from: Kalypso Katie (gr/ro M 1997) http://www.pedigreequery.com/kalypso+katie
02. from: Miss Toot (gray M 1985)
03. from: Blue Stack (gray M 1976)
04. from: Madam Pele (gray M 1960)
05. from: Chelita (gray M 1942) http://www.pedigreequery.com/chelita 06. from La Chica (gray M 1930)
07. from La Grisette (gray M 1915)
08. by Roi Herode (gray H 1904)
09. by Le Samaritan (gray H 1895) by
10. by Le Sancy (gray H 1884) http://www.pedigreequery.com/le+sancy

I just found a very interesting inconspicuous gray strain
I would like to share with all of you!

Note that the great grey Irish stakes winner, JUKEBOX JURY (2006)
is carrying a very interesting grey strain aside from that of
his more reknown broodmare sire Kenmare (1975).

It happens that Kenmare’s mate was also of grey colour.
Her name was Feerie Boreale (1981) and she was a daughter of the grey mare Skelda
(1968). Skelda was the daughter of the grey sire La Varende (1949).

La Varende was the son of the grey mare Cappellina (1949). Cappellina was the daughter of the grey sire Belfonds (1922). Belfonds was the son of the gray sire Isard (1910).
Isard was the son of the grey sire Le Samaritain (1895). Le Samaritain was the son of Le Sancy (1884).

As all of you are familiar with, Le Sancy (1884) is the tail-male great-grand sire of The Tetrach, via Le Samaritain and his son Roi Herode (1904), sire of The Tetrarch (1911).

Hello, Jorge,
Some months ago I told you about the gray mare Night Magic (by Sholokov), bred in Germany.

As you certainly noted she carries several strains of the gray colour. So I looked up the ped of "Right Boy" again. Here I became aware of a Sire named Milesius (by Roi Herode), it turned out he is a 3/4 brother of the famous "The Tetrarch", even more intriguing Happy Ogan (by Ballyogan) is bred 4 x 5 The Tetrarch/Milesius and Right Boy himself is 5 x 6 x 5 The Tetrarch/Milesius.

Regards, Bettina

Hello, Jorge,
when I went through various peds, I stumbled over a Sire named Le Samaritain (by Le Sancy). When I had a closer look I saw this Sire is from a different damline, but was unfortuntely named like his "dad".

The "second" Le Samaritain (Le Sancy, gray) is o/o Rosicrucian Mare by Rosicrucian from family 8-b (btw a branch of this family exists in my homecountry), was bred in 1893 in France and later sent to Argentina .

Maybe you find this info interesting.
Regards, Bettina

ANSWER TO MESSAGE NUMBER 1:

The LE SAMARITAIN (1895) we all acknowledge as the more famous and worldly known
one was foaled in 1895. He was sired by the gray LE SANCY (1884) out of the chestnut CLEMENTINA, by the chestnuts Doncaster out of Clemence.

The other LE SAMARITAIN (1893), albeit was foaled two years before the “real” one
we all acknowledge was also coming from the same sire, LE SANCY (1884), but out of ROSICRUCIAN MARE (1881), by ROSICRUCIAN (1865). In other words both were sired by the
same stallion.
