Mongolia has races of about 18 miles (if memory serves correctly). The horses are small (13-14 hands) but are ridden by children. The race is over open ground, and covered by tv cameras mounted on trucks. They gallop the whole way--they don't dawdle. Remarkable stuff. Videos can be found on YouTube.

Your comments also makes me remember of how Argentinean horses
(Thoroughbreds may be included) were raised and their reputation for toughness and durability. You don't read very often on medication fever
and "supplements". What a coincidence, huh!
