We won't be hearing from Lucy for about two months. The database is going to mushroom. :)

Not at all. ;) Indeed, since it's going to cut down on the time I spend scrounging through a dozen different books, I may be around more often!

WOW. Look at the weights assigned in 1897! Amazing find.

I stumbled across an internet version of the 1908 Goodwins. Just google "Goodwins turf guide", and the 3rd or 4th hit gives you the entire volume.

Enjoy.

The Goodwin's is for Jan-May 1908. It seems to be legal to download, using the red pdf button on the upper right. It worked.

I found a 1912 Morning Telegraph chart book similarly downloadable using google books.

Use the "full view" button and away you go.

Toccet...the weights in 1897? How much did the jockeys weigh then? Good grief!!!!

I'm doing some research for an old race track around 1911-12. Many of the jockeys were just boys. One - 15 years old and 80 pounds - was suspended by the stewards because he couldn't physically handle the horses he was riding.

Don't forget the old reliable newspaper search. The New York Times is all free before 1923:
