Need some help please!

Postby Megan » Thu Sep 16, 2004 7:09 pm

Hello! Like what's been done with the forum, it looks great! Anyway...can someone please tell me the produce record of the mare Sempre Solo? She's a 1994 model by Allen's Prospect out of the mare Resaca by Topsider. If anyone could help, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

I'm glad someone had the stats on her offspring. My APR CD is only up to 1996, and I can't afford to get detailed information from equineline.

Illigal Copyrighting

Postby John » Sat Sep 18, 2004 1:17 pm

Have noticed something that could become a LEGAL problem for some posters on this board.

It is fine to provide a LINK/URL to a story on Blood-Horse, or a data report from the Jockey Club.

THIS MATERIAL IS COPYRIGHTED, and anyone who, in a wholesale fashion, submits it here, or anywhere else, may be asking for trouble, if they decide to go after YOU. You do NOT own the COPYRIGHT, and as such, can NOT repro it, in full, here. Same would apply to produce records.

If anyone remembers from the old board, there are SPIES from JC, etc. who scan these types of forums. If they so wish, all they have to do is inquire to MILES about the identity of the poster, and the next knock you will hear on your door is a process server with an invitation to appear in court. I have better things to do with my money than feed a lawyer.

Fair Use is one thing, but you cannot legally reproduce someone else's work, without even mentioning that it is copyrighted.

This would apply to articles in TB Times, Blood-Horse, plus any of the pedigree services, which charge for their products.

In fact, some websites even frown on linking to their webservers, but that is a minor point, at this time.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! Proceed at your own legal peril. :(

I may have seen a bumper sticker like that somewhere, but I couldn't say where, much less who made it. No doubt some place online sells products like that.

I also saw a T-shirt that encapsulated my leanings pretty well:

CHRISTIAN
CONSERVATIVE
PRO-LIFE
HETEROSEXUAL
REPUBLICAN

DEAL WITH IT!

I just wish I knew who made it, so I could buy one! :) But I don't have enough gumption, really, to walk up to a perfect stranger and ask them where they bought an article of clothing. Hrmph.

But back to pedigrees...I need to gather up my missing pedigrees list and post it here some time. I've added several histories of South African classics to the site's stakes database, so a returned favor might be in order! LOL! It could have been worse - I could have taken a shot at Turkish classic winners, many of which are frustrating to research. The sires are unheard of, and their dams seem to have dropped right out of the sky. Were their names changed (to protect the innocent and drive researchers over the edge)? Who knows! But I can't find a lot of 'em, and I've found a few stakes winners from Venezuela that are likely untraceable.

Anyway, my research request list is a long one!

Perhaps, John, being the legal scholar you clearly must be, you will post the law, statute, (State & Federal) in total, that states what you are warning people about.

Thanks.

If it's illegal why is there a seperate category for it?
