pedigree tools

Postby bcassidy » Fri Sep 17, 2004 5:10 am

Would someone please let me know where the APR data that I see referreced so frequently on this site comes from? What tools for pedigree research do people like the best(obviously besides this site) ? Which tools are the most economical? What hypo mating software do people like the best? Thanks for the assistance in advance!
best regards Brendan

Hi

The APR mentioned is available through BRIS (brisnet.com). I use Tesio Power myself for recording pedigree data, hypo matings and research. Lots of options. New APR's are over $300. The full Tesio Power program is about $550. I couldn't get along without my Tesio Power, or my APR.

I have a used 2004 APR on CD-Rom for sale if anyone's interested. Had offered it previously but the wannabe buyer never got back to me again after saying she was interested.

How much are you asking for the CD-ROM?
I would be interested in it.

Bill, thanks answering my question.

Mahubah how much are you asking for your APR cd? What does slightly used mean?
best regards Brendan

I'm asking $125 and can accept personal checks or PayPal transfers (but NOT credit cards -- I don't have a business account with them, just a personal one). I'll pay the shipping since the thing's pretty light. I used it for a couple of months in my computer before BRIS sent out an updated version of the 2004, which I've been using ever since. As far as I know, the used disk is in perfectly good condition. If you want a brand new copy of the updated 2004 and can wait until mid-November or so, BRIS usually cleans out the current year inventory around then and sells for $250 (down from the current-year price of $325). One nice thing about going ahead and buying from BRIS is that once you're on their rolls as the owner of an APR, you can buy subsequent editions at a discount (I think $275 instead of $325), so that's a factor you may want to consider before deciding to buy used.

According to the letter BRIS sent me with the updated 2004, the main difference between the disk they originally sent and the upgrade is that the latter contains additional information on 2003 slipped foals, abortions, and barrenness. Race records were apparently not affected. I was really impressed with this as I felt it highlighted BRIS's concern that its customers get the best and most complete information for their money.

Bris is a remarkable resource. Lots of information available on their website (some of it FREE)

Mahubah,

If no one else has purchased your APR, I would definitely like to buy it from you. I can transfer funds via PayPal, if it's convenient.

Email me if you get a chance.
