I think it would be nice if people could look up the explanations of each avatar from other posters' profile pages, if an explanation is available.

It would also be nice if we could store various older avatars for future reference. A lot of times a post will refer to the avatar picture that was there at the time the post was written, but later the picture will have been replaced.
