I'd like to breed my mare to one of these stallions. I'm breeding to race regionally. I wanted to breed to Posse.....
The mare- Wheely Pink- she is 16h and light boned.

Stallion 2- Zivo

Re: Which stallion?
Which of those 2 stallions would you pick and why?
Very much appreciated, thanks.

Re: Which stallion?
Could someone please comment on these 2 stallions for the mare? Thanks.

NY bred
Re: Which stallion?
I have two Majestic City colts from his first crop . I like both . He has a lot of bone . I also like Zivo but you can't go wrong with City Zip . The one Colt I have looks like his Grandfather . I named him Lil Zip .
Re: Which stallion?
Thank you qb2dan! Do you have any pictures of your Majestic City foals? I talked to Kelly at Questroyal North, she said the MC passes on his nice demeanor and chrome. I love his pedigree. Chrome is bonus! My mare is an iridescent chestnut with a yellow spot. She is as shiny as a brand new penny.

Re: Which stallion?
this mare has no runners in her family... why are you breeding her to race? The distaff is a buncha cheap claimers with no ability. If you're going to breed, find a mare with some ability. Just my 2 cents.
Re: Which stallion?
Springboro- that wasn't the question that was asked, and you do not know my long term plans The mare's female family isn't deep, but there are runners and winners. She has a half sister that was graded stakes placed, black type winner of over $500,000. Another that was an allowance winner. You do not know my plans and I'm not going to explain them.
Re: Which stallion?
Hm. Maybe this one falls into that category, "if you have nothing good to say...."
In springboro's defense, this is a racing forum and if you were not breeding to race you could spend far less on any kind of stud fee and get a nice sport horse provided the mare has great conformation. So that assumption was made. It could be that the stallions you have chosen coupled with the mare you have presented just don't compel any kind of response. I glanced at it and could find nothing to remark on short of trying to dig in for a long haul of research.

Re: Which stallion?
Thank you Madelyn. I appreciate your comments, it was more diplomatically put. I understand this is a racing site. Some people breed to sell and some breed to race their own. Maybe when I have a mare that has a more substantial record I'll feel more confident about asking questions.

Re: Which stallion?
I see what you're trying to do, which is add a line of Hold Your Peace since that is the bloodline that contributed to the best runner in this family in generations. But City Zip and True Direction are not Speak John, and Zivo and Majestic City are not Thunder Puddles, and this mare is only likely to produce the kind of racehorse she was: very low-level claiming horses.
If you want to raise a baby, you can probably find a mare who is already in foal, and if you're willing to take on an older mare (14-15 or so) you can probably find one who has produced multiple winners. A quick Google of classified listings for NY-breds found this 2yo who is already registered and of racing age who will cost less than the vet bills and stud fee of Majestic City: https://www.equinenow.com/horse-ad-1145932 and the seller is willing to sell her and her in-foal dam (14yo) as a package.
It's not that the board is trying to rain on your parade...it's that, if you want to breed a racehorse who has a chance of not just winning, but even making it to the races, a foal out of Wheely Pink has a much lower likelihood of doing so than either the filly (who is already of racing age and sound) or her dam, who is a proven producer of winners, at a much higher cost.

Hi Nutmeg,
I took note of your mares dam and the stakes runners you mentioned that she's a 1/2 sibling to...Factual Number and Factual Contender. They were owned and bred by the late Carl Lizza, a top breeder/owner in NY at that time. Looking further Wheely Pink has Fred Hooper and Harbor View blood flowing around as well:>) With that in mind, when taking a shot at breeding a mare of this caliber, I like to reproduce some of the blood that could cause lightning to strike...for that reason I like Zivo. The foal would be inbred 4x4 to Fappiano, 4x5 to Tri Jet, 5x5x5 to Mr. Prospector and would possess the Rasmussen Factor (RF) 4x5 to Hail Proudly through full siblings Tri Argo and Triocala. I don't know if you are familiar with the RF, but it can be a potent breeding factor in this situation. Best of luck, TJ

Hi Nutmeg, I think TJ gave you excellent advice, the 4x4 Fappiano, 4x5 Tri Jet and the Rasmussen Factor for Hail Proudly sound like good upgrades, and our ability to see these duplications and line breeding is why we subscribe to Pedigreequery.
Just GLANCED at the pedigree (Madelyn would have to do an exhaustive in depth search, a pedigree analyst just has to glance) and available NY stallions and came up with what I think is a great alternative choice: D'Funnybone: https://www.bloodhorse.com/stallion-reg ... -funnybone
Look at D'Funnybone's dam sire: Woodman. Wheely Pink's damsire: Triacola.

Genetic Equivililents!!!!!!!!!!!!! http://www.pedigreequery.com/index.php? ... d=&x=0&y=0
Buckpasser is Tom Fool over War Admiral/ La Troienne line. Triacola is Tri Jet/ Tom Fool over War Admiral/ multiple La Troinne lines.
Triacola's dam: Hail Proudly; line bred to War Admiral, the dam sire of Buckpasser. You can't get any better!!!!!!!!!1 This is what's exciting about pedigree research and why it's worth it, even when you get insulting answers ( which is the norm on the moderated from hell poke a finger in the poster's eye moderation around here) when you ask a mating question, it's worth it when you get a polite helpful response from someone like TJ. Nutmeg, hopefully you will complain to the owners of the forum for the lack of moderation. Springboro probably lost a s$&t load of money on a bad bet and had to say something nasty to your post to get even with the world for their own lousy bad luck, and Madelyn's response that maybe there was an assumption you should spend less money and breed a sporthorse instead was outrageous. The suppose to be helpful moderator breeds plenty of cheap claimer and cheap allowance horses, and after all the years of moderating this forum, the best they could come up with was some 1/2 arsed thinly veiled insult. You go ahead and breed Wheely Pink to get yourself a nice thoroughbred running horse, and moderator can take their own assumption and breed their own TB mares to sport horse stallions. Lord knows (and I know too) they got ones with worse pedigree than Wheely Pink.
Your mare is 1/2 sister a stakes winner who made over 1/2 million dollars, and another good runner too in the hundred's of thousands. She's a perfectly good candidate to breed and raise a runner for yourself to run, with just as much chance as any other to have fun and win some races.

Re: Which stallion?
Jeff.. you misunderstood my post. I was not suggesting the OP breed the mare for a sporthorse. I was simply trying to ameliorate springboro's comments, which is all a moderator is supposed to do these days. I'm not certain where you got the idea that I have bred "plenty" of horses.. or what that has to do with this thread. Like springboro, you sound angry or stung by something outside the topic at hand.
Ever since I shifted my life to train my own foals, and a few modest purchased horses, I've found myself with no free time. At all. Being somewhat unfamiliar with the stallion colony in New York these days I would have had to do some research to pop up with what I think would be an educated mating recommendation and I don't have the luxury of the time for that kind of thing any more. Since you are a self-admitted pedigree expert, perhaps you could provide the OP with examples of your work in the past, ie: stakes horses you selected the mating for and how they might align with your suggestions for this mare.

Madylyn,
Looking at the statistics of the horses you have owned and the ones you have trained, I'm very proud of you. A backyard breeder, trainer, owner living right there in Kentucky horse breeding and racing country, one might think you would have gotten discouraged and given up, but oh no, you keep on sending them out for another start. That's what I love about this forum, we may not be the 1% who breed, own, train and race graded stakes horses, but we keep on trying, using things like good line breeding, nicking etc. To keep trying to get a good one. That's why I find it appalling, that u seem to identify with the 1% and insult the rest of us when we go to use this mating inquiry, when u are 99 percentage points away from the 1% of beeders, owners, trainers of graded winners. The fact that the past few years, what 30,000 TB's a year being bred, and hundreds, thousands of breeders traffic this forum, but they's seen enough that they don't dare post and ask a question because they'v read the forum enough to know they'll get poked in the eye by a moderator.
http://www.equibase.com/profiles/Result ... registry=T
There are some errors in the above statistics, but at least I've bred and races my own winners. I hope to breed a big stakes winner someday, hopefully the one I bred this year. I'd tell the forum about it, but the moderator would just poke me in the eye, so I won't bother.
