Which Darby Dan stallion...

Postby justinnich » Tue Jan 27, 2009 12:57 pm

Would you breed the following mares to if you had the choice.

Street Sharp (Street Cry X One Dream Cat)
Five Songs (Forestry X Irish Melody)

Long story short is that we have a good opportunity with Darby Dan for cheap breedings and our mares are stabled there so I think we're going to breed into the NY program with these mares. If you have a chance, I'd be grateful for any advice you may offer.

Thanks!
Justin

I went to DD last fall to view their stallions. I think, in my view, the short story is that if you're breeding to sell, broaden your search.

If you're breeding to race you might consider Magna Graduate. He wasn't there when I went.

I don't know how else to put it.

ct, yeah I agree on the commercial part. These mares wouldn't have much of a chance commercially right now anywhere really. This is for breed to race, particularly in NY (I realize I didn't mention that earlier...sorry bout that).

I like Perfect Soul with both of them but definitely prefer Nobiz for Five Songs. Sex-switched in/line-breeding to great sires Storm Cat and Fapiano and, as if that wasn't enough, line-bred to Secretariat through two daughters.

Merse (or anyone really), wouldn't you be a little worried about 3 x 3 Storm Cat as far as soundness goes? Maybe my concern is unfounded but it's just something I was thinking when I looked at the hypo for those Nobiz/Five Songs.

Reenci...economy's bad, but not that bad, lol

I have two 3yo colts by Perfect Soul that I really like. The Street Cry mare would be a good match for him in my opinion.

That's right - you could give Street Sharp to Sock Monkey, if you'd rather.
