Fairbanks

Postby Laurierace » Fri Dec 10, 2010 3:59 pm

I wasn't planning on breeding my mare back this year but am having second thoughts after seeing the Fairbanks foals at Timonium. Anyone want to comment on the Fairbanks X Quite An Evening cross? Lots of Roberto there. Something tells me it could end up being a turf horse too which I am not sure I like. What do you think? Thanks!

Could give you a nice steeplechaser...would you be interested in raising one specifically for turf and steeplechasing? I do agree with you that you'd have many turf influences.

Definitely no to steeplechasing. I can't even watch it, I couldn't imagine running one of my foals in one. Turf I can live with but wouldn't be my first choice.

There's really not an overwhelming mix of turf influences... no more than most pedigree crosses. Roberto is a versatile enough influence and it's far enough back that it probably won't make much impact.

While Giant's Causeway gets his fair share of turf horses, he also gets good dirt horses and if the mare has been throwing predominantly dirt, I don't think Fairbanks will override that since he was primarily a dirt horse himself.

We don't know enough about the mare yet as her first foal was injured at 3 months old and her second foal hasn't started yet. She is getting close though. This is my 3rd generation however and so far only one of them liked the turf but she was good on the dirt too. Liked the slop the best.

No I really don't know anything about him except his foals really stood out from the crowd at the sale in Timonium.

Any revisions to your opinion?
