Chop Chop is one of the premier foundation sires of the Canadian thoroughbred--sire himself of four Queen's Plate winners including the very good stallion Victoria Park.

Although his male line is basically dead, he is found on the distaff side of horses like The Minstrel, Far North, Barachois, L'Enjoleur, Night Shift, Storm Bird, and Bold Executive.

I was thinking about a Bold Executive/Night Shift mare cross, or do you think it better to cross the Night Shift (Stakes Placed Turf mare) with a Northern Dancer stud? Better yet, her second dam is by Known Fact, what about a Gone West son? Thanks for any help!

Chop Chop

The G1 Goldmine lists at least 6 graded winners inbred to Chop Chop. Four are sex balanced and the other two are same sex , one male and one female. This database did not show any when I searched it, kind of disappointing because I love to play on this one.

Just piddling around I found this: http://www.pedigreequery.com/a+beautiful+boss

It's Victoria Park, not Chop Chop himself, but I'd say it worked all the same.

This guy is a SW: http://www.pedigreequery.com/bad+hat2

Plus, Bold Executive is a GOOD horse.

The horses I found were: Aube Indienne, Desert Stormer, North East Bound, Krisis My Girl, True Sensation and Jordana's Run

All of the horses are in the database but when I used Chop Chop and hit the inbreeding search key, none of these popped up. I thought (and here's where I usually screw up) that if I pulled up a ped and then hit inbreeding, any horse that had the horse twice within 5 generations would pop up. I am puzzled why the search did not work. When I use Victoria Park there are 390 horses listed with about 13 stakes horses.

Chop Chop

Postby brown011 » Thu Dec 03, 2009 8:39 am

My concern is the blue hen mares that are doubled up in those results (as opposed to Chop Chop). I won't have that combination in this particular cross.
As a broodmare sire, Night Shift mares crossed with Northern Dancer stallions seemed to find the best results. I was surprised to see how much the good Night Shift mares brought at the recent Goffs sale in Ireland. I guess I'll lean towards Northern Dancer, do you think it matters if its sex balanced? I need a good GRASS horse, one that could win the Arlington Million, well, thats what I'm aiming for :)
I did notice that Bold Executive loves VICTORIANA. Look at how many GOOD runners are a cross of those two! What I need is a Vice Regent mare. I did buy a daughter of Cee's Tizzy, ran out over $200,000 and I believe Relaunch to be a good friend of Bold Ruler, so Bold Executive is the way I'm leaning...? You guys are great, "Thanks again" for your input. Great Brain Storming!!!

With Northern Dancer, sex-balancing absolutely DOES matter--and specifically, the best results by far are from two son strains. On the old pedigree post website, there was an article that used G1 Goldmine to show that linebreeding to ND through son strains was hot hot hot, linebreeding through a son and daughter was meh, and linebreeding through daughter strains only was awful.
