Mating advice for this mare

Postby wgc517 » Thu Jan 13, 2011 8:05 pm

Here name is Brenda D S. She is SP and has been bred to some really nice horses. She has a Medaglia D Oro filly that is a Multiple Stakes Winner 200k plus and still running. She also produced some other black type. I picked her up in a recent sale. She is 15yo. She was listed in foal but she is not. I want to stay in the PA, MD or surrounding area.

I like Louis Quatorze for this mare. He is a proven sire and I like the breeding duplications to Natalma through different individuals.

I note from her produce record that when this mare was sent to a Mr P-line horse, she got a ham and eggs runner and on the two occasions she's gone to a ND-line horse, she's thrown a stakes winner and group stakes placed.

It's also worth nothing that this mare has top and bottom crosses to the foundation mare Bloodroot, through full sisters Bimlette and Be Faithful. Be Faithful's daughter Lalun is the primary source of more Bloodroot floating around, although there is some from Fortunate Prospect's dam side in Florida. In particular, this mare's 4th dam is a 3/4 sister to top runner and top sire Never Bend (Nasrullah-Lalun).

I would look for a stallion who has both ND up top and Bloodroot...the previously mentioned Louis Quatorze fits that nicely, with Sovereign Dancer and Bloodroot via Distinctive. When bred correctly he'll get you a darn good horse, and I suspect this mare would define "bred correctly."

Senor Swinger in PA brings in Lalun via Sadlers Wells.

If you would like to add more Bloodroot but do not want more Northern Dancer, there's Go for Gin in Maryland. GFG's son Albert the Great might be a better match, despite having both Mr P and ND on his dam side, because the Mr P is via Fappiano bringing in Dr Fager to tie in to Nostrum.

Thanks Zinn,

I did look at that but I was a little turned off by the Dosage profile. I wasn't to keen on a DI of 5.67 would prefer to breed for something longer.

4-3-3-0-0 (10) DI = 5.67 CD = 1.10; GSV = 62.32

Staying in PA, I actually like Quarry with her but I am not sure he is commercial enough that someone would want to buy the foal. This might be the only foal I have a shot to sell bc she has some page behind her. I like Not for Love but out of my dollar range.

any other thoughts? Here is some of the work I did, any of these jump out at you?

if this mare thows stakes winners when bred to ND stallions take a look at Cherokees Boy.. One of his very limted first crop won the Maryland millions not too long ago and he is very reasonable.. Foal would be eligible for Maryland millions and could be made into a PABRED and/or Delaware Certified.

Also, if WVBRED or WVSIRED turns you on take a look at Limit out who had 80% winners from starters the last time I looked.. I looked at the top 5 stallions in KY and none has better than 60% winners from starters and Giants Causway has less than 44% winners to runners..

Not a ND stallion but Bob is sireing stakes horses and his race record is very impressive.. set three track records and tied the worlds record for 5 furlongs.

both Bop and Limit Out foals could be WVSIRED, PABRED and Delaware Certified or WVBRED and Delaware Certified..

HI Kimberly,

Thank you for the great explanation. Can you clarify something for me. When you say a Mr Prospector line does that mean it has to be on top line of the sire? I am trying to clarify that bc a lot of the pedigrees have ND and Mr P in them so how would I classify what line they are?

I concur with Griff on Bop. and you'll find elsewhere what I like about Marsh Side in NY. Big time winner who can run for quite a while. Stamina influence by Pleasant Colony.

One to look at might be Senor Swinger. A++ Nick with Med. d Oro as his sire. Not off to a great start, but probably one to develop more slowly.

Thanks Joltman

Intimidator does not have much of a race record but I do like his pedigree, especially with Hot Concern..

and although there is no evidence to support this I must admit that I really don't like 4 white feet and a lot of white on the face, especiallly on the nose.

one I don't like putting sun screed on horse's face and

second I remember an old cowboy {???};

one white foot buy him
two white feet try him
three white feet pass
four white feet and a snip on the nose, shoot him and feed him to the crows.

& I realize Secretariat shoots that all to hell.

Looking for new thoughts. This year I am looking for either a new sire that you might think will do well or one on the bubble that has a chance for a return commercially. The goal is always to sell first. I think my mare is proven enough so I can take a chance. I would like to stay in the under 15k. Her Name is Brenda D S

What do you think of Fort Prado or is the inbreeding too close? It would make sense.

How about Discreetly Mine?

Any other suggestions? Please give a reason why so I can also learn from your thoughts.

thank you.

Why not go to Artie Schiller? Your mare had success with El Prado so I'd stick with what works and since Fort Prado is El Prado/Fortunate Prospect it should give you a nice foal.
