Opinions on mare

Thoughts on breed to race? Friend of mine said the owners are willing to give away to a good home only. 16H and from bad pics I saw she appears well built with good shoulders and hip and plenty of girth to her. But again, pics were poor at best.

I would take her :)

Nice open pedigree - no Storm Cat - Mr P far enough back.. like the 2nd dam.. this is one for me that would be ruled totally by conformation.

Need to get a great deal on a stallion season? The ITBOA Stallion Season Auction is going on now at www.thoroughlybred.com (auction ends Saturday, December 10th). She nicks well with the following stallions in our auction and you can get a season for as low as $500: Kentucky-Five Star Day, Run Away and Hide, Bob and John; Florida-Two Step Salsa; Louisiana-Easyfromthegitgo; New York-Bustin Stone; Oklahoma-Read The Footnotes. Just a thought....

She's well-traveled and raced 31 times and won $ 85,762 before breaking her maiden in a $5000 claiming race as a 5-year old.

I agree with Madelyn about conformation and here's an old page for her...

I loved Viva Sec when she ran. It is a nice pedigree, I hope she finds a great home. So many options for her!

Thank you for your opinions on her. I'm still on the fence about her. I agree about the conformation. If I knew how, I'd post a picture of her. Anyway, I'm half trying to convince my sister to take her as an eventing project. :D

Well, I ended up picking up this mare. She is now a pasture ornament/occasional trail riding buddy (we ride all our mares - not that we have many). I think we may have figured out why she won 1 race. She has a "thing" about passing other horses and will not pass the lead horse. Walk, trot or canter, she will go up beside the horse but will not pass. She'll stop or abruptely change her pace to match the lead horse. She definately has an issue about it. Anyway, was thinking I "might" breed her this year. Anyone have any advice? She needs some speed I think as she was pretty much a dead closer. She's a tall mare 16.2, leggy and more stayer built type. Mass Media has Buckpasser top and bottom and is from a female line with great success crossing with Cox's Ridge. His dam has a stakes-placed winner by Eltish. His second dam produced millionaire Sultry Song by Cox's Ridge as well as a two-time stakes winner by Eltish.

He has the good jumping blood you'd want for an event prospect and Gr-1 winning speed. He does lack size--only 15.3--so that might be a consideration depending on your mare.

Still on the fence on this mare. Itsmyluckyday has the same bottom pedigree as this mare (i.e. Viva Sec). Thoughts? Doneraile Court is standing for next to nothing and this mare is a maiden. She has the height DC does not. Hmmm...anyone have any input good, bad or ugly?
