Mating advice on a new Mare

Postby wgc517 » Sun Jan 19, 2014 7:40 pm

Looking to get some mating advice on a new mare. Her name is Tapit Precious. Looking to go to KY or Mid-Atlantic and looking in the 15K or below range. Breeding for commercial appeal. She is related to Tapitsfly (3/4).

I Really Like this mare, pedigree-wise, with Big Brown. Once in a while it also happens that what screams at me in a particular cross also rates an A++ nick rating, which this cross does.. he's in KY and in your price range.

After seeing Storming Inti win this weekend, I was going to say Stormy Atlantic, but he's $30,000. I like some sort of Storm Cat over the Pulpit.

Where's Pure Prize (dead?)
Forestry
Freud (he's in NY)
Creative Cause
First Samurai
Giant Oak

You'd be better of sending the mare to the slaughter house than mating to Big Brown.

If this mare is like Tapitsfly and she was a grass horse, why not ARTIE SCHILLER.

FIRST DEFENCE gets winners on every surface.

Any even cheaper again FLOWER ALLEY sires Derby winners.

I am not a big fan of Big Brown although I appreciate the suggestion.

Cree I kind of like First Samurai also. What are your thoughts on Justin Phillip? Brings in more Fappiano.

also like these.
Artie Schiller

The Factor

Dublino can you rule any of these out?

According to this article in the BloodHorse, The Factor's book is closed: http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/ ... is-a-filly

A couple others on your list are also currently tight, so before you spend too much time making a decision you might want to call around to see what's available.

I second Cree's aim at a Storm Cat line.

I believe there is a Pulpit - Storm Cat affinity forming.

What about Tale of Ekati.
Storm Cat line and also brings in the Rasmussen Factor to Narrate who is the grand dam of both Tale of the cat and Pulpit. Its got to help to bring her back in regardless of whether you believe in the RF or not.

thoughts?

ToE is interesting. His yearlings that I've seen have been fairly good. If you like a LOT of Mr. P. you've achieved it.

Since you are considering as of yet unproven sires from the SC line, I would look at Majesticperfection. Fewer Nijinsky's, fewer Mr P's, lower stud fee and his yearlings have been very good - on looks and on price. His stud fee has actually gone up pre-first crop, and Airdrie knows how to make stallions.

You have an unraced mare The Factor was a smallish scrawny type of horse and an unproven stallion - total no go.

Data Link is unproven but was a G1 winning miler as a 4yr old - will he sire early types?

Artie Schiller proven sire, proven cross and getting 2 yr old winners - a no brainer for an unraced maiden mare like yours.

Yes after reading CT2346 post I realized I need to go to something proven.
I do like Artie Schiller but want to get a few more choices to work with. Thoughts on First Samurai?
