Would love to hear some opinions on this full brother to Gone West who stands in rural Illinois for cheap.

So does no one know about this horse or did I ask my question wrong?

Is there precedent for a horse like this (apparently failed on race track but is a full brother to a monster sire of sires) to succeed at stud?

When is a horse like this a good value? I think he stands for 5 or 10k.

He's in Illinois because he didn't make the grade in Kentucky; can't recall that he's sired much of anything of note. If they're asking $5K for his services, there's better values around for that kind of money, with Slew City Slew at the top of the list.

For another answer to your question, if you pull up Demidoff's pedigree, and then list his progeny, there is quite a big list with nothing much of note. Demidoff obviously got a different pattern of chromosomes than Gone West, and they are the ones that don't seem to produce racehorses.

I acutally thought that Demidoff did quite well considering his circuimstances. The talk from KY is that he was managed by a not so scrupulous person and that the stallion's career suffered from it. I do know that he was advertized as Breeders Cup nominated and the farm 'forgot' to get the fee in on time. This happened two years in a row so I don't know what their excuse was the 2nd year. The owner and farm were so at odds that breeders had trouble getting their foal certificates after they had paid...

FWIW, Demidoff is standing at Cleary Lake Equine in Prior Lake MN (western suburb of Minneapolis) which is relatively close (as far a suburbs are concerned) to Canterbury Park in Shakopee. I believe his advertised fee is $2750.
