Shamadaan was 3d of 7 in a 5.5f claimer at Mountaineer. He stalkes in 3d, went 3w and menaced but still had 2 1/2 lengths to make up at the finish.

Invasor's progeny are going the way of Candy Stripe's US progeny. Both of them produced mostly non-precocious non-sprinters. Actually, Invasor's progeny may do worse over time.

It all started with a Daily Racing Form piece by Mark Simon the other day. It ended with some humor, but there’s really nothing to laugh about. Follow the story as it unfolded on Twitter Friday. Here goes:
Only 17.3% of all races in N America in 2013 were at distances of more than a mile, according to a Mark Simon piece in DRF.—

1996 – 16.78%
2001 – 15.57%

Based on data RT'd last few tweets, it can be assumed, perhaps, that N American horses are getting faster at sprints and slower at 12F.—

Another problem for Invasor's progeny is that if a horse doesn't string a wins together at a mile or less they don't advance. That's nothing new but we've selected for precocious speed and old fashioned distance horses are at a bigger disadvantage today than ever. Even when a horse flashes a capacity for distance it doesn't get him anywhere.
Look at Holy Invader, a miler at Parx with 4 victories. Quirky, though. He won if he was 1 or 2 at 1/4, otherwise he didn't close. Except once on turf where he got in traffic trouble but kept fighting. My take was that he didn't like dirt in his face, put him on turf. Didn't happen until he placed but didn't win at Gulfstream a few times. Suddenly he was in a 1 1/2 mile turf race against winners at that distance and horses that had run in Graded Stakes on turf at that distance. He got loose on the lead, no surprise. At 1 1/4 miles the real running started. Amira's Prince (IRE) got by and won by 3 lengths. Holy Invader held off the rest.
What next? Amira's Prince went on to be a multiple graded stakes winner. Holy Invader ran on turf again a couple of times - at a MILE. He placed and was closing but didn't win. On dirt miles he couldn't beat Gulfstream milers, as before. So he dropped into the claiming ranks and is now at Aqueduct, getting lots of dirt in his face in mile races. The only time he got out front early he won. He's down to 12,500 claimers. If he has stakes potential it's at longer distance, probably on turf. We'll never know.

Kollos finished 3d of 7 in a mile&70 CLM at Calder. He pressed the pace, dropped back then was caught between runners on the far turn and lost position but surged again to claim third.
http://www.equibase.com/static/chart/pd ... 14USA5.pdf
His owner/trainer paid $1,200 for Kollos who was 13,1,1,0 his first 3 years racing. This year, at 5, he is 9,2,2,1. He's a sprinter cross but his wins are at a mile or a mile&70. When he started running well I was excited. I hoped to see him try longer races and/or turf. Will I ever learn? He's run 9 races so far this year making money the hard way in little claimers. The title he's trying for is most races per year.

Invasor 3 year olds
FYI: Dawly, the horse that Photon was 2nd to twice recently has a 3 year old half sister by Invasor from Family 7. Grand-dam is Serena's Sister.
She is Rahrosa, unraced

Spanish Invader, whose dam was a stakes winner, was scratched from his debut in Canada in August and sold for $2,200 in November. Whatever went wrong in Canada, he finally made his debut in a 5k CLM at Mountaineer in the mud. He didn't like the off track but has been 3d twice since, this time closer by far than last. Hope he wins soon.

Re: Invasor [ARG]
Invasor Luck was 3d of 7 in a 1m 3f race on polytrack at Kempton. He went straight to the lead but was settled toward the rear, came on in the final furlong and took 3d. It's very promising that he rated and closed, too many of the Invasors don't rate or aren't asked to rate. It seems Invasor Luck will be running long and should improve off his 3 yo debut. But he won't be at his best for awhile, let's see what happens.

Re: Invasor [ARG]
Twenty in One closed powerfully in a 1 1/16 MSW at Keeneland on synthetic. She was 11th, last by 16 1/2 lengths, at 1/2 and went 6 wide to finish 3d, beaten only 1 1/2 lengths. She missed 2nd by a nose.
http://www.equibase.com/static/chart/pd ... 14USA4.pdf
She was 3d at a mile on dirt at Gulfstream in her debut so she has options. But on synthetic she ran like a turf horse - will she try that next?

Re: Invasor [ARG]
Ecliptica got her second victory at the Hipodromo de las Americas April 11. She was 1st of 8 at 6.5f and finished strongly as a closer. In her previous race she set the pace and faded to 4th, this time she scored an upset.
Re: Invasor [ARG]
Succesful Brothers won at 1 1/8 on polytrack at Keeneland. He was steadied into the first turn, had 11 lengths to make up at 1.2 then swung 5 wide around the second turn and rallied 4 wide to win by 1/2. He was the 1.60 favorite.
http://www.equibase.com/static/chart/pd ... 14USA1.pdf
Succesful Brothers is one of the few Invasors to run at 1 1/8 and longer in the US. He is a closer but, until today, second or third was good enough. He runs on dirt, turf and synthetic (although he failed as the favorite on a sloppy track, which many Invasors love). His last race was a 1 1/2 mile MSW on turf at Gulfstream in which he was 4th of 9, 3 1/4 lengths behind the winner, "passing tired rivals". A grinder, but now he's 4 and may be coming into himself as Ausus did at the top level. He is very lucky to have owners, Grupo Seven C Stable, who aren't fixated on miles and sprints so we can hope...

Komejhen finished strongly to win a 7f allowance by 5 lengths after pressing the pace at Hipodromo de las Americas April 5, 2014. It was his second victory. He is by Invasor out of Dawn Maneuver and won at 2 last year.
Re: Invasor [ARG]
More good news!
Spanish Invader won at a mile at Mountaineer. He pressed the pace in 2nd and took control at the quarter pole but the race was far from over. He was headed in mid-stretch but dug in with determination and surged clear to win by a length.
http://www.equibase.com/static/chart/pd ... 14USA3.pdf
Spanish Invader is out of the Quiet American mare Sweetdownthelane and was foaled in Ontario in 2010.

Jeblar's War beat 9 others decisively in a mile&40 MSW at Thistledown. He was 11 1/2 lengths from the front at 1/2, accelerated rapidly on the second turn, opened a big lead on the stretch where the jockey lost his whip and won by 2 1/2 under a hand ride.
