Northern Afleet: Is he the real deal?

Postby tbrace » Sun Feb 27, 2005 4:25 pm

What are your thoughts on Northern Afleet? Certainly has the right connections, and a nice runner in Afleet Alex, but will he continue his upward climb to stardom?

He has some other nice runners as well, and his offspring are continuing to perform well. I think that he has upside potential, but I don't know how much.

He does turn out badly on one side in the front, and he is probably not 15.3h. He won't get it done on conformation.

Heather T., both front legs toe out, but the right one more than the left.

hi guys

He's a nice stallion and has certainly shown serious signs that he could be a very good one.

Based on what I've seen...I would strongly suggest that selecting a mare that you can depend on to deliver some size...might be wise.

I suggest he's very good value at his advertised stud fee of $12,500.

Liberty.. So much is made about horses and there imperfections. The perfect ones fetch a huge premium. One trainer that I respect told me there is confirmation flaws that will stop them from suceeding and there are flaws that stop the price from going through the ceiling.. lol As long as it does not stop them from going fast without hurting themselves who cares how perfect they look? Yes It True has had some very very fast babies and he has not been priviledged to anything other then B mares at best. If you want something fast at 2 and 3 Yes Its True is for YOU.lol

hi freddymo

Problem with Yes It's True is that if you could find a season to him...you'd probably have to pay around $40k NG.

Hi Heather T

I looked back at my notes, and I agree with LSB.

Thanks for the info. Northern Afleet is on my shortlist for my mare next year. Does anyone have any other conformation notes on him? Is he offset at all? How about his hindquarters and hindleg?

Thanks

We have 3 on the ground right now, with 2 more on the way. All 3 are really nice, 2 are blockier and heavier boned than the third. Butts like quarter horses on all of them. All three stand dead correct in front. Our vet nervously laughs about them, as so many other foals we have are crooked and the standard "well, they'll grow out of it". Our vet is afraid that these 3 are so straight that they will "grow out of it".

Good hind quarter, and nothing to worry about in the hind leg

Northern Afleet is smallish looking 15.3 with a nice shoulder, long back, and very good hip. Both knees are off-set and both front legs also toe out, more on the right than the left. He has longish pasterns, medium bone and is a little narrow. His neck could be longer, but his head is pretty. He's a very well-balanced horse.

FOS I thought is was standing for 25k. Is there such a premium on him already? By the way, Northern Afleet was bred to some of the worst TB's I have ever read in a catalog. Some of the mares might not even have been TB'S lol. But he certainly has had an enormous amount of early sucess.

freddymo, Yes It's True's book filled very quickly--within several weeks of his arrival in Kentucky. Now the only way to get to him would be to buy a season from a shareholder, and they're able to charge whatever the market will bear.

hi freddymo

When a horse gets as "hot" as Yes It's True was/is...it's basically about what the "market will bear"...as LSB indicated.

Conversely...when a horse is cold or "off-the-boil"...you may very well be able to get to him for less (and maybe even a lot less) than the advertised stud fee.

Best to you.
