Here is a really interesting study on the effects of birth month on Thoroughbred foals...

I've had January foals and declared "never again" since there is Nowhere to turn them out. I am pretty firmly set in shooting for March/April babies because here it gets so hot and full of bugs in May and June that I want the babies to be older and sturdier by the time the bugs come around..

I think each breeder would adjust to their particular climate and facilities - a January foal in Florida or California is Not The Same as one in KY when we are up to our ears in mud and ice...
