accessory carpal fracture

anyone had any experience with a fracture of the accessory carpal bone behind the knee? mainly wondering about the odds of successfully returning to racing. thanks.

vet Q. logically, you'd think "high" since its one small bone, depending of severity. fractured carpal may signify other significant knee joint damage. good luck with your horse!

There is a wide variety of treatments available depending on the diagnosis. The prognosis after accessory carpal repair has a wide range of outcomes. It is interesting to note that the racing Greyhound breed also has a high incidence of accessory carpal damage. There is a great deal of information on-line.

thanks very much for the input. our filly is on stall rest and is, much to our relief, the ideal patient. we're hoping she'll heal sound and can back into training.
