GREAT! I got this book for Christmas. It is a nice comprehensive work that combines the most important known "pedigree theories" and their fallacies with a deeper insight in actual horse-genetics and the practical use of this knowledge. Of course, research in this field makes leaps and bounds in present days and it is difficult for such a book to reflect the present-day state-of-the-art.
I met Dr. Binns in 2007 and we had a nice, unfortunately just too short discussion.

Our tbs in the US need med in the required amounts. If a trainer goes over the limit, he is fined. The vets have told me, if our tb didnt receive any med in small amounts, there would be no racing.
The goverment should keep their nose out of our tb industry.

They don't need the meds any more than the Euro or other horses do. If they were properly trained they would be in condition to run. The entire set up of horse racing is wrong. Keeping the horses at the track and in stalls 23 hours a day is what is the matter. Your imaginary breeding theory would screw up more breeding in this industry than help it.
Take away the 2 year old sales. They do more harm than good. Forcing yearlings into training is the stupidest idea I've ever seen. If they are given time to mature you wouldn't have half the problems you see now.

The prospect of the federal government regulating horse racing is appalling.
Our present attorney general decides who to prosecute on the basis of melanin--imagine the abuses an arbitrary fed agency could impose...
Louis, US/Canadian bred TBS do NOT require medication to race. If they did, they would not be exported overseas and run successfully in countries that DO NOT allow raceday medication, and North American stallions WOULD NOT be successful sires in the southern hemisphere.
Logic, Louis. Apply it.

In the old days, it was oats hay & water. Our tbs started 50--70 times. When the drugs came into our sport, are tbs were getting the quick fix. That's why those FB are receving the miracle drugs, & they are only averaging under 10 lifetime starts.
It's the FB inbreeding to 1 sire line that has caused the decline in averag lifetime starts, not the drugs. Our tb of the past were not bred from 95 % of the same sire line.

Louis, just accept, that the whole american horserace scene has made itself sick to death.
Ben: your not giving credit to ND his influence of speed that changed Euro racing, from those stamina to stamina matings, before the arrival of ND. The desired matings is a balance of speed & stamina, those matings will eat the lunch of those stamina over stamina matings, as we have seen thru the impact of ND.

Channeling Peeps makes more sense than the hocus-pocus Louis claims at present.
