These matings of Ph. over Fair Play, are breeding many superior runners. These tb are tough, & are standing the rigors of traing & racing. Many of these matings, are from Bertrando, Cees Tizzy, Put it Back, Successful Appeal.

I always read the racing charts, there have been a rash of these matings lately.

Wonderfella was a NFB, being inbred to 2 Ph. stallions, 4 X 5 RAN---5 X 5 Hail to Reason.
Another NFB with 27 crosses of Ph. stallions, a high figure for unsoundness. 20 years ago I didnt find a NFB with 27 crosses of Ph. stalions. As the 95 % of our breed traces to Phalaris, foaled in 1913.
Thats why we cant breed sound tbs in the present, like we did years ago.

We are not seeing a high degree of FB matings in the present, like I did when I started this thread. Those FB matings, were all inbreeding to Ph. stallions & mares.

They looked liked this, 4 X 5 Native Dancer---5 X 5 Bold Ruler---4 X 5 RAN---4 X 5 Mr. Prospector---5 X 5 ND---5 X 5 Natalma mare.

Is our breed changing, are the breeders breeding for soundness ? Only time will tell, which road the breeders will take.

We are seeing the same inbreeding patterns, to the same Ph. stallions, that are producing widespread unsoundness. Many of the progeny from these matings have single digit starts.

My good friend Bob Baffert, went to the 5 generation pedigree, of American Pharoah, he was looking for class in AP background. Bob missed, what i found.
