Assuming you mean TB female family 3m, 'm' is just the designation for family 3 descendants in tail female of Amazon 1799 who don't trace through either of the sub-branches (3n, 3o) in her part of the family 3 'tree'. All but two (1x, 9c*) of the alpha branch designations for Lowe-numbered families shown in the db here were defined by page breaks in B-Z's Family Tables. They're just an organizational artifact.

There are 2 main branches of family 3m that are relevent in modern pedigrees, primarily via the mares (circa 1900) Isadora, and particularly Peroraison. Family 1x (via La Troienne) is really Bobinski family 1s (via Doxa). The designation of 1x was assigned to this branch of the family by a group of current pedigree researchers which established a seperate line of family 1s that flows through La Troienne (most of the premier runners and producers from this family here in America trace to La Troienne).

Diomed
When I see Clare under Harpalice and see Seventh Heaven and Hill Shade why does it stop after Mysterious?

Actually it's supposed to say Shady Hill on the pedigree I have.
I am looking at Go GO Diablo ped. Shady hill is there but is this a typo?

Probably because the family hasn't been too active in producing classic/G1 performers or it might not be up to date.

Which one was the better mare, Isadora or Peroraison?

As far as initial production and breed impact, probably Peroraison, she being the conduit mare of Nashua, Louis Quatorze, and Wildcat Heir among others. However, that doesn't minimize the influence of Isadora. You will find runners like Sky Jack (G1 Hollywood Gold Cup and the G3 Longacres Mile), Rascal Lass (G1 Fantasy Stakes), J O Tobin (Champion 2yo in Great Britain, and who handed Seattle Slew his first loss in the G1 Swaps Stakes). Another fine runner was Smooth Player (G2 Hollywood Oaks), and to top it off, the Classic winner Mysterious (the Oaks Stakes, and the One Thousand Guineas). Good genes there.

Hill Shade was a 1965 model GSW full sister to Shady Hill.
