Dancer's Image & Nearctic "nick" -- Opinions?

Postby Jorge » Sun Oct 20, 2013 9:27 am

BIGGER IS BETTOR (grey h 2008) http://www.pedigreequery.com/bigger+is+bettor

When Dancer's Image was an active sire I noticed there was
some kind of affinity between him and Nearctic. Unfortunately,
Dancer's Image ended up becoming an itinerant kind of stallion
and that affinity was really never exploited to full extent.

Now, with the surge a horse named BIGGER IS BETTOR one
has to revisit that old apparent affinity and pose the following question:
is there some kind of "nick" between these two honest sires (Dancer's Image / Nearctic)

(p.s. Oh yes I am quite aware that Nearctic is Northern Dancer's dad  )

Jorge:

I think you've essentially answered your own question.

With the exception of Whywhywhy the pedigrees of the 60 other graded or group stakes winners I found only tie Dancer's Image to Nearctic through Northern Dancer -- no "nick", merely inbreeding to Native Dancer.

The very difficult thing about posing this "affinity" between Nearctic and Dancer's Image is that both are obviously overpowered and belittled by the likes of Raise A Native, Atan, and Alydar on one side of the equation and by the prepotent Northern Dancer on the other side of the equation.

In other words, trying to propose a very solid affinity between Dancer's Image and Nearctic may be perceived by many as trying to hike through an unnecessary passage when you can travel through the much broader road
of all of the aforementioned mainstreamers. I am aware of that rationale.
But since I have followed this miniscule "affinity" and noticed their likeness I just want to at least leave a reference of it.

Another case that does not qualify due to so many "mainstreamers"
in his pedigree is the following good sire:
