St. Joe Bay and Inbreeding

Postby Shawklit Won » Sat Mar 21, 2015 12:20 am

St. Joe Bay has some interesting inbreeding. He is inbred to Weekend Surprise (dam of A. P. Indy) 3x4, Danzig 4x4, Secretariat 4x5x4. Those are not bad horses to be inbred to, but usually when a horse has that much inbreeding, they don't do that well at the racetrack. At least that has been my limited experience.

But, St. Joe Bay looks like a pretty good racehorse, so far. He broke his maiden at 1:36: and change in a mile $75,000 maiden claiming race, winning by over 10 lengths and the time was almost 2 seconds faster than a MSW race at the same distance later in the day at Santa Anita.

Since then, St. Joe Bay has raced in 4 graded stakes races finishing 3rd in one and 4th in three others, and he also finished 2nd in an allowance race at Santa Anita.

I think that he is nominated to the Santa Anita Derby on April 4th, but I don't knew if he will run in it.
