I have owned this mare for 6 years. Her name is Ali M Boo (Spanish Drummer x Chez Soave). Please tell me what you think about her bloodlines. I have her bred, but will hold off saying to whom until I hear what you think of her.

I know many racing breeders seem to concentrate solely on pedigree, but for me, this mare's conformation (phenotype) is nearly perfect. I am not interested in breeding for sales, more to race my own horses.

Also, if anyone has any stallion suggestions (prefer IL, IA, IN or MI) let me know.

Thanks!

Disclaimer: I'm not a professional analyst, but these are just some observations I've made.

Overall, her pedigree is a bit more obscure than most, but, oftentimes, the older lines can bring out the best in newer ones.

One of Spanish Drummer's stakes horses came from a broodmare sire line with stamina influences (top turf horse Czar Alexander) . Another stakes horse by SD carries sprinting lines (Bolina's Boy) and stamina ones (Belmont S. winner Sherluck). Ali M Boo gets both speed (broodmare sire placed in the Hopeful S.) and stamina (second damsire was a top distance turf runner), so she fits in this pattern.

In terms of her female line, one top runner up close in her pedigree was grade III winner Valid Vixen, by Valid Appeal. Therefore, I might suggest a horse of the Valid Appeal-In Reality line. Canaveral, by Relaunch, stands in Iowa for $1,250. He carries another cross of Bold Ruler, which heightens the crosses of Nasrullah in the potential foal's pedigree (Spanish Drummer is already inbred to Bold Ruler). Canaveral's champion daughter Brusque also has a second damsire (Speak John), who traces in tail-male to Princequillo/Prince Rose and was a stamina influence. Ali M Boo has the same in the form of Petrone.

Another good cross might be Binalong. He's by Known Fact and has been successful as a sire in Michigan. One of his top runners was Binalegend, who, like a Binalong-Ali M Boo foal, would carry a cross of Native Dancer at the fifth remove out of a classic-winning/DQ-ed source (Dancer's Image, Native Street). Binalong's MGSW Binthebest has a bit more Phalaris blood on the dam's side, but having SD as a damsire would bring some of that in.

Her old bloodlines nearly demand a stallion of similar lines. In Illinois, I like Alaskan Frost, Powerful Goer or Roanoke.

You say this mare has nearly perfect conformation. Does she have an ounce of jump in her? The Bold Ruler line is VERY popular in the sporthorse world. Her damside, Vaguely Noble, brings in a ton of stamina desired for eventing.

If she goes to a stallion who does race and sport, her foals would have residual value as hunter or event prospects. Roanoke is well-liked as a sire of sporthorses and he gets decent racehorses.

I'll 2nd or 3rd that Roanoke opinion - his offspring don't race early, generally not coming into their own until they're about 4. But they are attractive individuals who run to type & are often sporthorse prospects when their racing careers end.
