cool - I replied.

Trackside (Churchill Downs Training) is at I-264 & Preston Hwy - not exactly next to Churchill, but only 15 minutes from my farm.

I saw Hoopoe on TVG today (!) race today at Saratoga and thought he might win if he had had another gear or just some reserves in the tank as he (and the thundering herd) hit the top of the stretch....sadly he had pretty much run out of gas and folded to let the stalkers surge past for the WPS....not sure if he held on to 4th or placed further back?

Too long a race, too stiff a competitive group or just not ready? He ran well up to a point but past where I would consider it a wind issue - he just seemed to have either hit his distance limit or ran way too fast/hot on the front end of the race to have anything left for the finish.

Unless I'm dis-remembering his race I recall that he went waaay wide on the first turn and set very fast initial fractions - maybe he's still very green and needs some more race seasoning before he figures it out?

Did you mean the Indiana Derby or was he entered in both?

I picked the Ohio Derby information here:

http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/52735/better-late-than-never-for-ohio-derby

And there is this other entry, which I just read, to check on the Indiana Derby:

http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/52757/misremembered-to-try-dirt-in-indiana-derby

which means he is (pre)entered in both races.

I wonder which one he'll be in... Good luck to him, whichever one he runs in!

Well he has no rider for the Indiana Derby and he has one for the Ohio Derby so I'd think the Ohio would be the one he'd show up in. Okay now he has a rider for the Indiana Derby as well so there is no way of knowing where he is actually show up at.
