| Well two reasons for no two races for Lethal Heat. First of all, Abrams wanted to avoid Zenyatta and it became pretty clear after her final work that Zenyatta would not be going in the Ladies Classic. Thus Lethal Heat would go in the Ladies Classic as a long shot, but since she has a habit of getting into the trifecta and Breeders Cup races pay down to fifth place, a nice piece of the 3 million dollar purse might be anticipated. I think Abrams would have gone for the race the second day, but wasn't allowed. Breeders Cup rules apparently state that a horse can't race in two races if the entry would deny another horse a spot. This is the case in the Turf Sprint, the other race for which Lethal Heat was pre-entered. Even though she had enough racing points to get into the main field for the Turf Sprint (which was oversubscribed to the tune of 22 entries), she certainly would be denying another horse the chance to run in any Breeders Cup race if she were to remain in the field. Quite a few of the 22 pre-entries did not draw in, and the field is full with two on the also-eligible list. |
