With a very kind temperament, this 16.3 fellow is gentle enough for anyone to handle and will produce incredibly good minded babies. An athletic individual with good bone, a nice topline, an excellent shoulder and strong engine, Rodeo is ready to sire lovely sport horse foals.

$500 to great home. Pics at http://pets.webshots.com/album/575362277jMVECx

Rodeo does not crib, weave or stall walk. Located at Mountaineer Park, zip 26050. Selling to non racing home - Rodeo comes with his papers and coggins. Main concern is a great situation with good people to take care of him.

Rodeo has 22 starts lifetime, 74k in earnings, which is just over $3k/start. He ran at the races as a youngster, and ended up at the Mountain late in his career - meaning he was earning big bucks early in life, now not so much. Everyone knows pedquery, as much as we love it, is wildly inaccurate - esp when it comes to race records. Cool Cool Cool

Griff if you notice he is for sale to a NON RACING home. Wink And their first priority is to find him a good home - he could easily be sold as a racehorse but they want to take care of the horse - he is a great tempered animal who oozes class, and wouldn't dream of putting a foot wrong - they happen to LIKE him. Wink

Should they grind him up until he is just a husk, maybe run him another 10x til his earnings are more like 2k/start THEN spit out the leftovers? At this point with breeding season fast approaching he has a chance of a decent home. If they ran him another 6 months who would want to take a chance on a stallion prospect in May? I think they are doing right by the horse, who happens to be a sweetheart and barn favorite.

Rodeo's connections asked if they should advertise him for $1k but I suggested $500.

I recently sold Sicilian Boy - http://www.pedigreequery.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=26063

for $500, and SB was almost the same size as Rodeo but was stakes placed, has a better pedigree, is a more popular color (chestnuts are hard to sell) and had a SW Mommy who led the first mile in the 82 or 83 Derby before tiring, then broke Ruffian's track record in the Acorn a month later - she also has a stakes named after her at Belmont or Aqueduct.

As far as "comparables" go, it was my opinion that Rodeo Rising should be priced at $500 as a stallion prospect. Sometimes if a horse is priced higher initially they tend to linger and linger on the sales forum - and the longer they go without getting sold, the more people begin to think something must be wrong with the horse. Then they hesitate to inquire. So, blame me for the low price, not his connections. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Jessi P
The pediquee Query link of Redeo Rising you posted in your first message of this trend says he is a 2003 horse with 7 starts. 3 wins, and one place and $86k in winnings, which does come out to app $12k per start

Is the TB pedigree Query listing completely wrong??

Pedigree Query listings are often totally wrong.

This is the horse's correct race record from Brisnet:

RACE RECORD: Race Record in US
2005 2 0 0 0 $1,367
2006 5 2 1 0 $60,830
2008 6 1 0 0 $9,241
2009 11 1 0 0 $6,852
Totals 24 4 1 0 $78,290 (SSI=1.11)

I don't know why people don't like chestnuts, especially one's with lots of white markings. He's gorgeous, I do hope he finds a great home.
My gelding's a gorgeous chestnut, I love them.

My information on his race record came directly from the program that the ho twalker showed me when I took pics of the horse - apparently he has raced a couple more times since then. Thank you Laurie for looking it up. Wink

Cree I agree - he is a lovely animal, but so many people don't want to breed chestnut foals, esp for the show ring. Chestnut fillies and mares are often very hard to sell in the pleasure/show horse venue. With racing it doesnt matter as much what color they are - a good horse is a good horse, but in other arenas of the horse world chestnuts often aren't as well received, unless they have a lot of pretty white markings or are obviously sabino. Cool

Interesting - I tried to update the horse's race record to show the correct info that Laurie posted but he is locked so that info can not be updated. His last update, when he had 7 starts and 3 wins & 1 second, was made in 2006. I contacted Roguelet - when she has a minute she will fix it, I am sure. Wink

Interesting pedigree note - Rodeo Rising traces tail female back to the "Reines" mare COURT DRESS, a granddauther of the incomparable DOMINO. COURT DRESS, a solid race mare of her day, is his 8th dam, tail female.

Another f/n

As to his chestnut coloring it would appear from his pedigree that it might very well be his 'Secretariat' shining through.....that shouldn't be too objectionable for sport horse breeding I'd think Wink
