Its entirely possible for him to LOOK (read not BE) fewspot, or snow cap and not be, and also not be gray. |
ah Yes.. Of course.. I understand now where you are quite correctly coming from! Sorry |

Jorge
I remember reading an article (about 20 years ago) about an appaloosa breeder in the USA. (he was in his mid 70s at the time of the article).. and he endevoured to breed along the lines of a spotted tb. I do remember that he had got as far as 63/64th with colour.. I think that is 6th generation??
All I can remember was that his stud prefix was "Peone" or "Peone's".
I will try and find some of the pedigrees but, I dont have access to the USA appaloosa studbook.

| Its very interesting to note.. that she was purchased specifically by the Nez Perce Tribe in Lapwai Idaho, and they are the current owners. |

belambi Thank you so uch for posting that terrific Artical and the pedigree we are using mares with white feet and known splash carriers as it seems to help the tobiano appear and it helps us breed 3 homozygous tobianos in a row from two heterozygous tobiano Red carriers
Ee TO nt
Ee TO nt A all very interesting we only have three more generations to go to get to 63 /64ths I hope I live long enough! _________________ A coloured leaving its mark

An interesting bit of info from the current FAQ on the Appaloosa Project concentrated on LP horses that exhibit minimal markings. LP is the gene/genes that usually included sclera, striped hooves, appy roaning, and mottled skin.
There are examples of horses with blankets, that don't have the white sclera, or striped hooves.
On another tangent there was a Arabian stallion named Mesaoud the spotted wonder.

Mesaoud has been suspected of carrying some sort of color genes. |

I have been out checking my horses sclera and the interesting fact is that the heterozygous horses have one white sclera and one brown and the 3 homozygous tobiano have two how neat is that! also I have a TB girl possible splash carrier and she also has white broken sclera it will be fun to see what she has when she foals.
this boy has one eye with the white sclera the other eye is brown I know from early talks with a genetisist dyslexic ) that the spotting gene for coloured horses is linked to the spotting gene white horses are basicly one big spot! _________________ A coloured leaving its mark
