Lexington, KY – August 19, 2010 – The Blood-Horse magazine, in conjunction with Pedigree Consultants, LLC, announces the first Thoroughbred Pedigree and Genetics Symposium, to be held at the Marriott Griffin Gate Hotel in Lexington, Kentucky, on October 11, 2010.

The 2010 Thoroughbred Pedigree and Genetics Symposium will bring together six internationally-known speakers who are leaders in their respective fields to discuss thoroughbred pedigree analysis and genetics. The goals of the symposium are to educate thoroughbred breeders about progress and new discoveries in the field of equine pedigrees and genetics, create awareness of tools and technology available and to provide a networking opportunity for international participants of the breeding industry.

"The field of pedigree analysis and thoroughbred genetics has changed dramatically in recent years. There’s a lot more information and services available to thoroughbred breeders throughout the world to help them make better and more informed decisions about breeding and racing thoroughbreds. The goal of this symposium is to bring together the best of this field to speak on one day and to give thoroughbred breeders, owners, trainers and even veterinarians an insight into the leading edge of thoroughbred pedigree analysis and genetics," said Stacy Bearse, President and CEO of Blood-Horse Publications.

Speakers for The 2010 Thoroughbred Pedigree and Genetics Symposium include: Dr. Emmeline Hill, Equinome Ltd; Mr. Alan Porter, Pedigree Consultants LLC; Mr. Robert Fierro, Datatrack International LLC; Mr. Gary Falter, The Jockey Club Information Systems; Dr. Stephen Harrison, Thoroughbred Genetics Ltd; Dr. Matthew Binns, Equigen LLC, The Genetic Edge.

For more information on the day please click the following lhttps://www.bloodhorse.com/seminars/seminar/schedule/1/the-2010-thoroughbred-pedigree-and-genetics-symposium

The one-day symposium will take place following the opening weekend of the Keeneland fall race meeting, on Monday, October 11, 2010, at the Marriott Griffin Gate hotel in Lexington, KY.

Registration for the symposium is US$175 and includes attendance to all sessions, breakfast, lunch, and networking cocktail hour. Registration for the event is available at www.BloodHorse.com/register.

I am thinking about going to this. It seems like a lot of fun. Just checking if some of my ex TBPedix folks will be going. I would be shocked it Les Brinsfield and Anne Peters won't be there.
Now, I have to get time off from work and an OK from the husband to go alone. He would be bored to tears at this thing. lol.

As usual, if its happening and its about the TB, it is taking place in KY. Sounds like something I'd be interested in, but the logistics is too much. Crying or Very sad

Where are you located Shammy? For me, it's only a 6-7 hour drive or a 1 hour flight if I want to spend the money to do so.

I really want to attend this symposium. I just had back surgery, so if I feel like I can make the trip in several weeks, I'll be there. It gives me an incentive to get well fast!

Diomed: Our farm is one hour south of Charlottesville, VA. I've traveled to Louisville on a number of occasions by air. It's a nightmare. It usually takes a full day through the hub in Charlotte and that's making just two connections. There would probably be three connections to Lexington. There are no direct flights from C-ville or Lynchburg to any major cities except the hubs and the flights that are available are commuter props. I'm getting too old to drive that far as my hip arthitis makes life miserable after a half hour at the wheel, plus I've got cross WVA. Amtrac is a possibility but has nothing direct or through KY. Closest Amtrac service is Cincinnati.

Take notes for me.

We are limited to 120 seats at the Marriott. Any more and I think it will be a little uncomfortable and that isn't the idea.

Seats are starting to fill nicely, after the weekend rush we had 4 new registrations yesterday and 4 today so I am pretty confident that within the next week to 10 days we will be somewhere in the 70-80 range. I am sure that a lot of people will be looking at registering at the September yearling sales and we should have a "house full" sign by the end of September.

We have had quite a few people contact us about webcasts, dvd's and transcripts. We are going to meet on this next week and see what is the best plan here. A few of the speakers have new papers/findings that they are releasing at the symposium and we won't have access to that prior to the date so getting this together in a usable format on the web for example might prove a challenge. I will keep you posted.
